I'm not the one who designed the NBA cap..... but a feature of going over the cap is preventing maneuverability and imposing taxes. Tilman is the one who gave up assets to shed salary on a contending team over the cap..... but we are going to pay JA in RFA right after we traded Harden for picks and still remain over the cap?
It wasn't exactly the hardest thing to figure out. You either see what you had in JA, and by all accounts he produced at every single opportunity when given minutes and being only 22 years old at that point fit exactly what this full rebuild is and was worth seeing. Instead they made another dumb decision and settled for a late sorry ass bucks pick. I said It was stupid then and that much more dumb now. And casual folks were crying about how he was going to get max and he didn't even get that. Which makes it all that more dumb. They completed fumbled how they handled JA. But hey no surprise, they've been doing a lot of that for the last 3 years
The only valid excuse would be if the team didn't want a big who can't stretch the floor. And even then, JA would have been a valuable piece to have around at the trade deadline. At the very least we would have gotten a better pick than that Bucks pick. It was definitely short sighted on Stone's part.
Because Allen is absolutely worth more than a very late FRP. It's not that he gained in value, it's that we could have had him and let him go for LESS than he was worth.
Top 12% salary is not peanuts. And he made the ASG because multiple other players got hurt or essentially made themselves ineligible. KD, Harden, Simmons and Kyrie. I understand the league market just fine. Centers that can't dominate on an MVP type level aren't worth paying huge salaries in today's game. Lopez made 12M for the champs last year. The Lakers C's combined for around $10M the season prior. Gasol was highly paid the year prior to that, off the backend of a contract he signed nearly a decade prior. None of the title teams from 2012 until that season invested heavily in a C, especially one like Allen. We had a player like Allen on the team in Capela, and happily gave him away for another wing to try to win in today's game. Come winning time with our best team he was on the bench. Do you forget those times? This is why Allen had so many suitors this past summer (irony...he didn't).
It seems like you need to look up the meaning of the word "fact", and stop typing about yourself (your last sentence).
top 12% doesn't matter when the true market value for position is what really matters. you just use the 12% because it so happens to fit your narrative without actual context. I can name players in that 12% JA is better than and gets paid less than them. so does that apply or nah? Nah right because it doesn't fit your silly logic. He made the ASG because he's an All star caliber player. That's what matters. Getting a joke of a late bucks pick for a all star caliber player is a flat out joke. No you don't understand league market because everything you just said was dumb and wrong. you're talking about champs. Why is that relevant to the Rockets? It isn't. Not even close to a correlation. They're the worst team in the league and will be for the next several years
I use 12% to show how he actually is paid compared to the rest of the league, which is not at peanut level. Everything I typed was accurate. Dumb and wrong is a typical response when one can't rebut something.
Sure is peanut level. How much he is paid compared to what curry makes no difference, because their markets are completely different. They have no impact on how each of them get paid. Now when say another center gets paid relative to another center. Well that's what agents and players actually look at. But you're too stupid to know that or even understand quite a simple concept. When someone is up for a deal, they look at the list of other players in their same position. now that's a fact. But your logic is JA looked up how much some guard is making and went off that. yeah i know stupid not really. you sat there and talked about champs. while the rockets are literally the worst team in the league and will be for years to come. There's no correlation. Apparently, The next $20 mil signing is gonna go from worst to champs apparently. yeah dumb and wrong again. CF's never fails with silly logic
Where are you getting his worth at that time from? Why is it that you think the Rockets took less than they could have gotten for him? Have similar level players going into RFA been traded for significantly more in the past? What's the baseline for the undervaluing?
It's funny how some of you folks really dry snitch and tell on yourselves as being on the same level of Tilman stupidity, who know nothing about basketball and have the same terrible decision making of a Patrick Tilman GM
What's your expert take on the value of Allen last year? Keeping in mind that Morey got a first and a second for Clint a few years ago.
Have you posted what you thought the Rockets could have gotten for him at the trade deadline last year?
easily an all star caliber center gets more than a last pick from the bucks. that's just common sense btw the rockets sent out their 2020 1st rounder to denver in the capela deal. well technically minny got it but then used to get beasley and hernangomez
Was Capela an all star caliber center? Was Allen more valuable going into RFA than Capela was at the time he was traded? Btw Atlanta received Capela and sent out a first and a second that Houston rerouted. It wasn't a direct trade but what was sent out in exchange for Capela was a first and a second.
No. He's a good role player. that's what he's always been. The only reason he was traded in the first place was because the rockets chose to trade for westbrick who can't fit with another non shooter in the lineup because hes so terrible himself. Which was obviously the dumbest decision in history. but we know that's a trend with this ownership and FO Allen a 22 year old who has shown potential is a more valuable asset than a guy fresh off that's locked into brand new multi year deal
