This is open carry vs illegals. Not the massive majority of those legally here vs a small minority of criminals.
Yeah, he's got Texans running around armed and hot headed. It's not even open carry that has made us a more dangerous place to live. It's his lax gun laws. License them all annually, after mandatory classes and much stricter requirements. Refuse gun ownership or revoke licenses for anyone taking drugs for depression or any other psychiatric problem, anyone with diagnosis of a mental illness, and anyone in a designated hate group. Revoke licenses for any arrest involving drugs, drunk driving, any type of assault, domestic abuse, child abuse, and anyone who no longer meets the requirements. If a child of a gun owner hurts themselves or others with their parents' gun then the gun owner should have their license revoked. Anyone caught with an unlicensed gun is charged with a mandatory 10 years in prison minimum. Anyone committing armed robbery or assault with an unlicensed gun is given a minimum of 20 years. That might deter them. Law abiding non-violent citizens shouldn't have a problem with these ideas. The NRA would though, and their money feeds the GOP, so they have them right where they want them. Loose gun laws makes them more money.
IF he actually won, why would he be a bad governor?? The problem I see is the fact that he’s a long shot to win. Gregg Abbott, Dan Patrick, and Ken Paxton… Having at least one of these roles replaced by a Democrat would be huge in order to break up the corruption and laughably hyper partisan politics from these boneheads. When George W Bush is the least hackishly partisan governor we’ve had since I can remember that’s saying something. Even if you’re someone like me who thinks Beto shouldn’t keep running for everything, not trying to get him elected to crazy to me. I’m sick and tired of the corruption and overly partisan insane right wing politics in our state which is not Alabama or West Virginia. We have the same Demographics as California, and should have at least some break up of the right wing monopoly on our state. Every single member of our state Supreme Court is a hand picked judge from Abbott, Rick Perry, or W. How are our Republican elected officials NOT going to just act as though they can get away with murder?
It's because his entire focus is on projecting fear that the immigrants are the criminals we need to protect ourselves from. In reality, we need to protect ourselves from racist liars in charge of this state.
GW Bush had to deal with a Democratic legislature. Also for all of his failures as President I did get the feeling that he actually believed in "Compassionate Conservatism". Even during the height of the "War on Terror" he still went out of his way to say this wasn't a war on Islam and speak out against targeting Muslims just on the basis of their religion. I'll be clear that GW Bush was a failure but personally he was very different than Trump, Abbott or many of the current Republicans.
My point was that W is the least hackishly partisan governing figure in Texas’ political history at least of my lifetime… and that’s not a good thing because the diversity and independent nature of our state shouldn’t be so heavily monopolized. I’m not giving a referendum on everything W did in Texas or as President. We have movies, books. Documentaries, etc. that cover that man’s history to a fuller extent than I ever could in a post. He was a very bad president in totality but it’s not all bad since there was some good things he did. His governing history here in Texas is a topic that gets overlooked because of his presidency but whatever you want to say about it the fact is it was very very Republican and not a representation of the diversity and independence of the large majority of Texans.
What's funny is that they all kind of hate each other too. They all smile and co-promote because they have crossover interests, but radio shock-jock turned politician Patrick (real name Dannie Goeb) is power hungry and wants it all. Abbott thinks he can empty suit his way towards the presidency. And everybody hates the philandering criminally charged out-on-bail Paxton who holds on by sucking up to Trump as much as possible. Well, they all do the sucking up.
The primaries are happening now. I want to know why no Texans stepped up to challenge him in the primaries. The other candidates I see are a former Mexican media producer, a guy that owned some Toyota dealerships, and an Aggie. It seems to me that either nobody of talent stepped up (Castro brothers, Hidalgo, Etc.), the race is considered unwinnable via the data, or the data shows Beto actually has the best chance. My gut tells me it’s the first one and Beto’s war chest he built up from his Senate run had enough funds left in it to blitz the media market early and make potential other candidates say it’s not worth it and focus on other races. Which is a shame. That being said I like Beto, and think he’d do a good job if he can win which is a long shot at best. It’s just frustrating that Texas has the political diversity of a California but it’s governed like Bum F Alabama.
The Castro pipe dream needs to go away. They’re not that talented and have had plenty of chances to run for statewide office, but have always deferred.
I think @dobro1229 is correct... the state of Texas has been designed to be unwinnable for Democrats. Doesn't matter how population shifts happen... there will always be a redistricting and voting law changes that will keep the state-wide offices republican.
Im just throwing a name out there to make a point. If the point was missed I don’t know what to tell you. Republican monopoly on a non majority Republican state as large and important as Texas is wrong in principle. Not saying we shouldn’t have Conservative representatives ever in power but the fact that we literally have NOT ONE partisan hand selected non Republican on the Texas Supreme Court is wrong. Even California has had Republican Governors and many other elected officials. Something stinks to high heaven about Texas governance and whether you like Beto or not, on principle alone I would hope people would at least give the idea of getting Fing Abbott, Paxton, and Patrick the hell out of Austin. It’s time for some damn change in our state.
I think Beto *CAN* win but needs to do something that he won't do Like someone pointed out ... he *has* to walk back the "Yes! I'm coming for your guns!!" rhetoric He is gonna have to go into alot of small towns and play grab ass I may need to hear more but . ..as a black person I cannot think of anything he has said to excite me . . . . The Democrats run TOO OFTEN ON "WELL . . . . WE AIN'T THE REPUBLICANS . .. YUCK YUCK!!!" Beto trying to ride that name to the Hispanic vote is . .. kool i guess but He has to go and Press the Flesh and get the Hispanic Vote out Other than NOT BEING A REPUBLICAN . . . NOT BEING ABBOT . . . was is he offering? and NO THAT IS NOT ENOUGH!!! Rocket River Rocket River
Dude the party leader of the Republican Party literally just tried to overthrow Democracy. Ken Paxton played a vital role in providing pretext with his BS lawsuit and Abbott has cow towed to Trump all along as well. In this case…. Yeah… not being a Republican is enough to get my vote. It’s kind of weird that you would make such a bizarre case for one comment being why you’d help allow corrupt insurrectionists like Paxton retain literally the power over our elections just because Beto offended someone who doesn’t have the intelligence to understand what Beto was talking about with ASSAULT WEAPON bans. I understand you might be talking about getting the votes of independents and Republicans here and not saying what you are going to do in November but the point still should stand that yeah… the fact that Abbott, Paxton, and Patrick are either complicit or active participants in trying to overthrow our Democracy.. let me blunt here… not being them IS ENOUGH for me. It’s sad that it’s not for more Texans who just think they are above it all so they don’t vote. It’s a shame that in Texas having that view is popular. But yeah I wish there was a better candidate than Beto but Beto is not THAT bad that you’d literally allow an insurrectionist to cruise back into power just because of a comment about AR15’s.
HISTORY says Just not being Republican is not enough in Texas The Anti-Assault Weapons ban MOTIVATES his opposition yet and still it is too much to ask him to Motivate his own base???????? Democrats want to do bare minimum and receive the most Let's say you are right . . .. it should be enough. . . . but it not. . . . NOW WHAT??? Just lay down and said. . oh well we tried . . being not republican was not enough .. .we tried D*MMIT DEMOCRATS F***ING TRY!!! Rocket River
