They're down bad because of the dunk contest lol they're the same ones that said him lighting uo the rising stars game didn't mean **** but are losing their minds over the dunk contest. Really low iq behavior
Lol, since when is the dunk contest some big deal? If Jalen Green had won the dunk contest, I would’ve been happy for him and it would’ve been cool that a Rocket won, but that’s about it. There would be no proclamation that he’s the truth or some other sh*t. It’s ultimately meaningless. Obi Toppin won off some basic dunks and a power layup. Is he now built for some mythical big stage? Jalen Green’s 2nd dunk was unspectacular, but fine. He should’ve aborted mission on his 1st dunk after the 3rd miss. at least he went, most guys don’t even want any parts of it…that’s why we had a bunch of scrubs and no-names this year this is as dumb as overanalyzing James Harden’s garbage play in the All-Star game
You know for sure for sure- If he won it would've been "why can't he focus on his game instead of dunks" type opinions. For sure. Because nothing will ever be good enough. He could've done the first ever front flip dunk with his feet, scored all 50 in both RS games, won ROTY, MVP, a chip, Finals MVP and cartwheeled into the HOF and some mother ****er on here would complain about his efficiency stats.
Jalen Green’s game plan wasn’t good. He should’ve done his 2nd dunk 1st…something simple and clean that he could do on his 1st or 2nd attempt just to get his feet wet and he should’ve dropped the NFT thing…all these dudes doing props and all this extra sh*t just to miss their dunk or do something basic Cole Anthony embarrassed himself…all that dancing like he was on the NY subway trying to get some change just to flop on his dunk attempts
Bryant is clearly a top ten player of all time (Olajuwon was better though). Nobody and I mean nobody, other than Jordan, had the work ethic and intensity that Bryant brought to the game. He studied and lived basketball. Every team including Jordan’s needs more than one star and complimentary players to win it all in the NBA. Hope that Green quits self promoting everything and gets humbled enough to put the ridiculous amount of time, study, and work in that Kobe did. Then and only then should he go out and tell everyone that he is the next coming of Kobe Bryant.
Regardless of what you think about Green, at the very least I think one positive about him is that he’s not a chemistry killer or a poor teammate. What does that mean? Not much, admittedly. But I will say that if he ever does become a great player he’d definitely be a player that others would like to play with.
well everything gets hyped up pre-draft every top pick is the hardest worker *insert coach here has ever seen every top pick is a gym rat and has this unwavering drive to be the best every top pick is a student of the game and soaks up knowledge like a sponge and so on and so forth
do it again next year Jalen…would be interesting to see the improvement and compare between year 1 and year 2
Too early to tell whether Jalen Green will be able to co-lead a team to a title. He has a very strong work ethic, has a good attitude and has rare physical ability. I am not saying he WILL be good, I don’t know. His actual skill level isn’t where it needs to be, and there is a chance that it never is, but there is also a decent chance that the skill level does develop. As for Kobe, no he wasn’t viewed as weird and disliked when he came to the Lakers because of his dedication. He was disliked because he was a loner, he was weird, he didn’t socialize with his teammates and was awkward. When he was older, he was an ******* and abusive to his teammates.
Eh, disappointing but he did well in the rising stars challenge and a lot of players don't have perfect dunk contest showings, neither are that serious in the bigger picture. Just keep improving as a player and it's all good and no one will care years from now.
I think the latter comment was more in response to goofballs saying his 20 points in a free wheeling game with pretty much no defense showed he’s a star and just being misused. Even though none of this ultimately means anything on its own I really enjoyed his performance in the RS game until he took that completely idiotic shot at the end of the game which personified the Jalen Green Experience. The performance in the dunk contest was just another part of the JGE. I really wanted him to win but should’ve known he’d do something like that.
Nah. The work ethic of every player isn’t pumped up. There were questions about how much Mobley loved basketball and there were questions about the personality of Barnes. Jalen Green was hyped up by this G-League coach and a number of scouts and support coaches in the G-League. It wasn’t that he was a savant or a genius either. It was that he had a really good work ethic, had a good demeanor and personality for the NBA. As Brian Shaq said, he is already a professional as a person and gets that this is a business. So far I have neither heard nor seen anything that contradicts that. He has an excellent attitude, he works extremely hard and he has stayed out of trouble off the court. The problem that Green has is that his basketball skills. He is really raw in the same way Clyde Drexler was. It shouldn’t be a shock because Green really got into basketball later than most elite prospects. I have concerns about him and had concerns before he was drafted, but the idea of who he is as a person is T one of them. I don’t care that he isn’t as well spoken as some others.
ok, well then most of them, which is why I take it with a grain of salt I still remember the way Larry Brown was pumping up Mudiay, and the puff pieces and hype will be coming out in full force for this year’s top prospects soon it’s apparent how raw Jalen Green is now, but no one was really talking about that pre-draft…matter of fact, he was talked about as being NBA ready
Jordan and Kobe had legendary work ethics, intensity, and competitiveness that drove them to become two of the best ever, with Kobe being obviously a bit shabbier facsimile of MJ. But let’s talk about their rookie/early years. One thing, they were both skinny and extremely athletic. Kobe obviously was very young and developing his body, but MJ was 21, yet when you look at film he looks very skinny. What made both of them immediate sensations, however, was the ability to use their jumping ability, hang time and unbelievable body contortions to finish in traffic. We’re not talking about fast-break dunks or alley-ooops. We’re talking about taking it to the rim, exploding and somehow finishing through defenders. Keep in mind that the way defense was played in the 80s and 90s nowadays would get you 3-5 years without parole for aggravated assault. Yet Kobe/MJ showed that awesome ability to explode and finish very early on against brutal defenses. Of course, they kept adding and adding all kinds of tricks and weapons: post-ups, fadeways, moves, fakes etc. to become two of the greatest ever. I thought Jalen Green had that too, so I could definitely buy the Kobe/MJ-ceiling talk. Look at his G-league film, it’s all there. Why haven’t we seen that in the big League? Especially against today’s cupcake rim defenses? What the F happened? I disagree with posters who say, "wait till he bulks-up, when he adds a Euro-step, when his jumper improves, etc. then watch out!" That’s all too hypothetical to me. I saw highlights of an awesome athlete pre-draft, who was doing crazy stuff in traffic. That was the thesis for a #2 pick. That thesis blew-up., I don’t know why.
I respect your basketball knowledge a lot so the fact that what you’ve seen and heard about his demeanor and work ethic matches with what I’ve kind of gathered from him is reassuring. If (and this is a massive if) Jalen Green ends up anywhere near the caliber of Clyde Drexler then he would most definitely be an awesome number 2 pick.
It seems clear he works very hard. Working hard and working smart aren’t the same thing though. He’s shown some growth so I hope he’s doing the latter, but all his boasting/goals are usually about individual stuff. Like now he’s motivated to come back and put on a better show in the dunk contest next year. I know I’m being hard on him but just comparing what he does, says, and how he carries himself compared to a guy like Mobley is frustrating, especially given that mentality was supposedly the big advantage Jalen had over Mobley. We need to adjust our desired archetypes as fans I think.
Exactly this. I was disappointed in the dunk contest, too. I don't care if he wins, but if his problems are just that he's raw, then the dunk contest is exactly where his athleticism should shine through.
Jalen, is his own worst enemy, he needs to stop talking about what he is GOING to do, and just start DOING it so others can talk ABOUT what he did.... DD
