Pretty much a trash dunk contest year. What a waste of time. The league needs to ditch it or figure out another format - even the best years in recent memory have been mediocre by comparison to the heyday. And the thing is, the athletes are perhaps better than they ever have been but since they penalize people for copying dunks of the past, it means people have to get increasingly more gimmicky OR we get these rules that give players a lot of leeway to encourage super hard dunks but at the expense of spontaneity and flow. Maybe they need to try it with a defender or something - almost anything would be an improvement over what they have now- hell, have them dunk over replicas of famous cities like they are Godzilla, anything would be better
it simple and difficult at the same time. I really appreciate the greats the showman so much more every year. You would think the children that have been online since birth would know how to put on a show.
Have they ever done a HORSE concept? I feel that would be more exciting where they have to imitate each other's dunks to avoid elimination.
These high flyers go about it all wrong... Stop the goofy tricks where you have to see the replay to see what they did... Just put on a retro jersey every time and do a powerful windmill from a good distance, hang on the rim for a second, and yell... You'll win!
Kinda tired of the retro jersey gimmick. GSW fans be like: “Juan, I served with Jason Richardson. I knew Jason Richardson. Jason Richardson was a friend of mine. Juan, you're no Jason Richardson.”
Agreed but it seems to get the old heads ( the judges) attention more than lacing up some timbalands... They jump higher and further than the Niques and Spud Webbs ... I think it'll look dope doing those kind of dunks but with more hang time and flair
To hear Kenny tell it, he was Stephen Curry crossed with Vince Carter. I’ve never seen another player’s stock rise so much in public perception after retirement. Kenny was the living definition of “league average”. This is a guy who, in the prime of his career, basically lost his job to a rookie Sam Cassell.
Baron Davis, Allan Houston, and Michael Finley all were all star but not superstars. I guess Jalens ceiling if he reaches it will be those guys. meanwhile Kobe, tmac,Jordan, Dominique etc rose to the occasion
Too early for me to get either of their jerseys haha. Do you all remember when rockets fans were getting hype for Royce White, Jeremy Lamb, T. Jones and Motiejunas... Thank God for that trade. Lol I'll wait a year or two.
Literally anyone who could throw down. Basic dunk would have won this contest it was literally that bad. I was hoping the would just stop and hand out participation ribbons.
They did a couple years I think think... I think the first was KD vs Rondo it was incredibly boring they were just too cool from what I remember.
the way to bring back the dunk contest is to open the field up. Make it 8 dunkers and first round everyone gets ONE dunk...three tries, that's it. A try is when you jump in the air. Period. NO PROPS. EDIT: I mean no props for the first 8 dunkers. Props only for the finalists if they want to use them of course. The whole prop thing is ruining the dunk contest when everyone is trying something silly. Just dunk. Cut the field down to 4 after that and those 4 could be finalists and go from there. I think they make the pool way too small.
Dunk contest isn't worth watching. Judging is subjective and bias as fked. They should do it like gymnastics/snowboarding/skiing where they give a person a set amount of time/tries to rattle off as many insane dunks/tricks as a player can Do.
