Essentially my question didn't touch on legal issues of the criminal. I'm just curious if gun owners on this site would actually be OK with shooting and potentially killing someone who is running away and not a threat to them after robbing them (even with a weapon).
I wouldn't shoot anyone for robbery. I'm much more apt to be the bishop in Les Miserables. The scenarios where I could envision myself shooting someone seem pretty far fetched and unlikely to me.
As a side note, please everyone…do not go to an ATM at night, it’s bad enough in the day but still . ATM/ night is a no. Always trust your instincts regardless and stay safe.. here in Nashville , I can take you to exact spots where ATM murders happened and charge a macabre tour fee and everyone that I recall was at night
Instead of banning all guns. Why don’t you ban all azzhole activist DAs, judges, mayors etc. Basically ban all liberal Democrats from the lowest city councilman to the commander- in chief from taking office, and I can guarantee you that we don’t have to watch another child die from gun violence. Just ask yourself why/how is that perpetrator who’s trying to rob the shooter walking free around the streets doing that?
Could have been the first time he’s ever robbed someone. For every criminal there’s always a first time. The point of the thread is it wasn’t a criminal that shot and killed a child it was a good guy with a gun trying to protect his $20.
yeah, cops have shown to be so awesome with guns. Better let be the only people with access to guns, I'm sure they will get even better.
So you think this is the first time this perp has robbed somebody? I’m here in Florida, I’ve got some cheap lands in the Everglades I’d like to sell you. Let’s hook up. Lol
This is a false dichotomy. Saying that the shooter how used deadly force should be held accountable doesn't excuse the original criminal. Too often these arguments are framed as being soft on crime. Yes if the robber is caught he should be prosecuted also. I don't think anyone is saying otherwise.
I don't think most gun owners are trigger happy or blood thirsty to shoot someone in the back, but if they hear there's a "crime epidemic in their hood" or a band of super predators lurking around on their favorite news program, they might be strung up to take it to another level. Then again, if they reported reality rather than sensationalizing a narrative, it's a harder question to answer. I wouldn't shoot people in the back, but I'd be more likely to shoot in the air or load shotgun blanks if I lived in a crime infested area. Just like how everyone thinks they're exceptional drivers when most are average in reality, gun owners feel in control just by virtue of holding it without necessarily spending the time and practice to be a responsible gun owner.
Guns are nothing but weapons designed to kill people or animals. I hate guns in the hands of people on the streets. This country's got enough mentally ill, violent thugs, and hate groups already. Letting millions walk around toting guns legally is just insanity. Too many are so damn irresponsible their kids end up hurting or killing themselves with the guns. Then you have the thousands of guns stolen from cars because some idiot left a gun in the car. All the gun shops robbed puts more in the hands of felons. I wish all handguns were illegal. I wish all rifles with magazines were illegal. The way this country is heading with millions of guns on the streets is just an extension of crime infested Central America and Mexico.
Exactly. The problem is just like having a children is you can be as dumb as it gets and have a bunch of them. You can be a moron and still have a ton of guns. Just because he is intelligent, doesn't mean the idiot you run into on the street can't be idiotic.
Or the house next door, or the house next to the house next door...or anyone in the yard of the house of the house...or the car in the street, or.... but hey! pistols are fun!!!
I don't think we need to completely avoid ATM's at night. This is a matter of learning basic threat awareness and avoidance. Here are some suggestions I've used in teaching self-defense: 1. Be aware of your surroundings. Whenever you go to an an ATM day or night check the area around the ATM. Are there people there? Are there areas around it that someone could hide and attack you? If you are threatened is there an easy route for you to escape. 2. Don't go to the ATM alone. Having some one else with you can help to keep an eye out while you use the ATM.
in 2018 I sold all my guns and fathers guns I inherited over the years. I didn't hunt any longer or go out to shoot for fun. In 2020 I re-armed. I felt like if society was going to fall apart I didn't want to bring a knife to a gun fight. My life would have to be threatened for me to shoot someone. Property is replaceable. Both guns stay locked up and I take them out to the forest a couple times a year just to stay proficient with them. I don't put myself in situations where I feel threatened or would need to carry one for protection. In a perfect world I would gladly give them up for the societal good, but considering the selfish state of the country at this point, that will never happen.
