Rockets are in no position NOT to take best player regardless of fit. Chet and Jabari are best players AND best fit. Griffin, then Ivey are also next tier down as best players and fit. Banchero is only top 5 draft pick that is a bad fit.
lol he has excellent handles he can play yanis role in our offense as per leadership you may be right but i could care less and so should silas if wood or kpj will listen to him
so what?... world is full of awesome athletes which are inferior players to alpi... btw why you are even mentioning this? i am sure 100% if hakeem enters the league today youd be ruining him by making him into a 3pt threat to space floor for kpj lolololol
lol he may end up out of league trying to expand his arsenal...let him first establish himself... he may get injured and miss the next year and the rumors of him not playing defense spread around...i can see it happening... it happened to better players... and if you really want him to add jumpshot you give him 20 jumpshots a game not just a few he wont add to his arsenal by taking 2 3s a game...
I would want him to develop his handles first. He sometimes cannot finish properly or turn the ball over because he loses control when changing direction while dribbling.
Go with a 3 guard lineup of Schroder/KPJ/Green/Tate/Sengun, stop making Sengun switch everything and run the offense through him at the elbows. See what happens. I get superstar vibes from this kid and we can't be wasting our time with Wood and Gordon
Chet is at minimum above average on the perimeter. You can’t find a video of him being taken off the dribble by any big or most guards. He’s very close to Mobley on the perimeter and slightly better rim protector.
I think he has potential to be our best player next year and 2-3 years down the road . right now it’s Tate / eg / prolly Dennis / and kpj better than him . for the future he is competing with 2 other firsts right now (garuba incomplete ) , Tate and KPJ for best player . Jalen and kpj and jc all have very high ceilings as well . Alperen’s ceiling is pretty absurd though . his handle , passing , and touch are all very advanced for his age and for a 6’9”+ player . his length and athleticism are ok .. with his length being better than his athletic ability right now . Strength is pretty good too . He’s got a pretty unique combination. Julius Randle / Boris diaw ... with room to be better based on his scoring vs Boris and game sense vs randle . He looks to be a pretty good rebounder too . Guy is very very talented .
I think we saw today how much better his game can be if he shoots and makes more 3s. My analysis was more for the season not yesterday Yes there are definitely times where he is looking for cutters and trying to get the paint cleared but he can go through those progressions faster ( would come with plays designed for him) and there are times where he just takes an extra 2-3 seconds really getting into his post up. I used to say we need to get him down on the block more but I am not sure he likes getting the ball with his back to the basket, I still think catching the ball closer to the goal even when facing up will be better for him especially, as you pointed out, he is getting a better mid range jumper.
I noticed this too, is there anywhere I could look this up? How many heaves he has, and also how many 3s in the last 2 seconds of the shot clock? I know for a lot of players this doesn't make much of a difference, but it seems like a pretty big deal for someone like Sengun who only takes 1.3 3PA per game.
Alright well I'm an idiot and should've just googled it before asking because it was easy to find. On the seasons Sengun is 0-6 on heaves (3rd most in NBA) and he is 1-12 in the final 4 seconds on the shot clock. I know not all of those are final second dump offs but I'm not going to look at each one individually so just take that context into consideration with the results here. If you remove those two things from his season totals he is shooting 17-46 from 3, which is 36.9%. Pretty good!
Thank you for digging this up. He is the third in heaves with less minutes compared to others on the top. Yes, just without the heaves it is 31% and I would rate him to be around 32-34% already based on the last second shots that I have seen him take that are not actual 3-pt attempts. Since he has taken so few 3 pointers, the current stat line is not very reliable. I think it is getting better with playing more in rhythm (@hakeem94 was definitely right about that) and his shooting form is good. So he probably is not in a spot to talk about 'developing a 3pt shot' as if he is shooting less than 30%. We just need to wait a little bit for the stat to be more stable. For a comparison, Wood has 1 heave and if he had taken heaves at the same rate as Sengun, his 3pt % would go about 1.5% down. Another fun fact is that JC has 5 heaves. His 3pt % jumps up about 1.5% without the heaves.
A consistent three-pointer opens up Alperen Sengun’s game If the young big man can start hitting triples consistently like he did against Phoenix, the league could be in trouble. https://www.thedreamshake.com/2022/...alperen-senguns-game-houston-rockets-nba-2022
WTF is Silas doing. Alpi had his best game so far, and in response, Silas plays him 14 minutes the next game, and instead plays a guy everyone knows SUCKS.
Exactly what I was saying the other day about Sengun. Love him, but you really have to commit to him in order to fully maximize his abilities. He needs to operate in certain schemes defensively, certain systems offensively, and has to have the right kind of players around him to complement his skills and mask his weaknesses. He requires a lot. They have to really love him to do all of this. You’re essentially building around him. It’ll be interesting to see how the next draft goes.
I haven't seen enough out of Sengun to merit that yet. His athletic limitations make it seem like he's closer to his ceiling than you'd think. Maybe it's just bias because a guy who can run and jump is always going to seem to have some elusive next level, even if he doesn't. But, he's smallish and not super fast, and a big man. That seems very limiting unless he really develops a stretch game
I said this before but I think senguns ceiling changes drastically based on his growth. Not growth as a player but literal physical growth - he is only 19 so it’s not unheard of that he could grow another two inches. If he does that and can get to 6’11 or a true 7’ it could change everything. Think about his ceiling at age 25 with his current body compared to a Giannis-like transformation where you have 2-3 inches of height and 50+ lbs of muscle. I know it’s a long shot but Senguns skill set in a bigger/stronger/more athletic body is crazy to think about.
