Because Dipo was never going to agree to an extension, thus it was a token gesture. You can call it something else for all I care, but the fact remains that the Rockets offered Dipo an extension both sides knew wasn't going to get done.
Dude, you have the player himself noting it was just a gesture and nothing serious. Did you not see him post that man's own words? What more do you need to see? As far as why teams offer BS extensions they know will be rejected....no idea.. But that's clearly what it was.
I did, and you know because I have said the same thing in the original offer thread. I have no idea why you think I am misinformed.
He needs to see an e-mail from Stone to the entire front office detailing their exact plans to trade Oladipo. Anything short of that will be spun into them wanting to keep him all along. And honestly the e-mail would probably be explained away as some long con by Stone to keep Oladipo.
Du The player himself said they wanted him here. That actually wasn’t yesterday. That was a long time ago. They came at me with the offer. It was more along the lines of, ‘We know you’re not going to accept it, but we still want you to understand that we want you here.’ It was more that gesture, than anything. Didn’t go out of my way to ask, or anything like that. It was just kind of put in front of me, or given to me, to show that they want me to be here. How is that a sham? What were the Rockets trying to accomplish with this sham?
1) Dipo knew he wouldn't accept. He was interested in making more money by waiting until the offseason. 2) Because there are pleasantries and formalities in the league. Rockets didn't want to trade for Dipo and not offer him anything. 3) A max extension is only for 2 years. Dipo wanted more than 2 year max extension so he would have to wait.
Exactly. Not sure if you're being purposefully obtuse or just unaware but I will give you benefit of doubt. 1. Last season's Rockets team was the most injury ravaged in franchise history. It was so besotted by injuries that Rockets started G League players for multiple games and Rockets play actually IMPROVED when oft injured Dipo was traded. 2. It was Silas first season as Rockets HC, and first time HC to boot. As such, he was even slower to adjust (yes, even slower than THIS season) his system to fit players. He finally abandoned his hybrid defense and committed to primarily switch everything before AS break. *JA would have struggled mightily in Silas 5 out offense, even moreso than Sengun, and Silas would have been slow to adjust IF he would even adjust. *Theis was a bad system fit but Silas never adjusted system, preferring instead to sit Theis. 3. There is no way in hell any of the players acquired would have contributed to more wins, LeVert is as ball dominant as Wall and Dipo and would only have increased the amount of iso offense and selfish stat padding. And the combination of JA's strengths in the paint plus Silas insistence of 5 out play would have contributed to more LOSSES.
Maybe, just maybe, they wanted him to feel wanted on the team he was currently playing for. You know, like how people say they are glad you came when they really aren't glad you came and can't wait for you to leave. It's a very popular gesture among humans.
And maybe the Cavs would have lost more and changed the draft order, only 3 games separated the Cavs from the Pistons. It's certainly more probable than "no way in hell" that the draft orders. In your mind we could have had LeVert, Allen, AND Mobley. Speaking of alternate realities.
Just because Dipo was stupid not to accept does not excuse Stone's stupidity in actually making the offer. What if Dipo had a change of heart or a little more self awareness regarding his injury and actually signed that offer? It's like watching the GOP insist Jan 6th rioters were normal every day of the mill tourists. Insane.
Here is what I see. This is the Rockets roster if they keep Allen, LeVert, and Prince. Wall/ Gordon/McLemore LeVert/Tate/Prince Wood/Tucker Allen/Cousins I don't love that roster but I am not confident that it is a bottom 3 roster. There is a lack of PG depth but there is a decent mix of vets and younger guys on that team. I didn't want the Rockets to have that roster because I was not confident it would be bottom 3. I am guessing the Rockets thought the same. You can bring up injuries but those are after the fact things that happened. At the time of the trade all of the players I listed would be playing.
LOL Are you really saying this? You are even more of a dumbshit than I thought. And i never considered keeping LeVert for a second, check the archives you nutsack.
LOL. Well he didn't....since it was rejected pretty much right away. It's almost like the two sides talked about it. LOL.... You probably still think Stone sets the direction.
You're wrong. But you be you. Rockets roster was completely volatile last season due to the massive amount of injuries and players needing load management. If Rockets could field the same starting lineup in back to back games it would have been a minor miracle. You continue keeping your head in the sand, it's a good look.
This. We only had a certain amount of information, we probably would have done things different had we known the future. @D-rock resorts to name calling and insults once she/he has become exhausted. Good luck!
Who was injured at the time of the trade? You can't use future injuries to explain why the Rockets should have known they wouldn't win more games. Adding three young guys instead of Dipo would have probably done a lot for injuries and consistent lineups.
Adding Dipo was win now. Fact. Stone admitted to this and only pivoted his strategy after Dipo gamble failed and the mass of injuries contributed to longest losing streak in Rockets history. Your argument about trading away JA but trading for Dipo is circular. You have a problem understanding the nuances of both logic and basketball.
