But you know they were not because they traded for Dipo and offered him an extension. You can't have it both ways.
That wasn't even really an offer. The Rockets asked him do you want this extension while also saying we know you aren't going to accept it.
You really should go read up on the extension. It wasn't some formal offer. It was a welcome to Houston hope to keep you around offer. It was basically a pleasantry.
Because they knew he was never going to accept it. It was just a nice thing to do to welcome him to Houston. Go google it, you will find several people saying they same. Here is what Oladipo said about it
The Cavs defied the odds to move up in the lottery. The Rockets were trying to give themselves the best odds of staying within the top 4 picks. If you conclude that giving yourself the best chance equates to giving yourself less odds to win....
I don't need to read up on anything, they offered him an extension point blank. Do you think they would have pulled it if he accepted it? How the hell is offering a max extension a pleasantry?
It wasn't a real offer. Here is what Oladipo said about it: That actually wasn’t yesterday. That was a long time ago. They came at me with the offer. It was more along the lines of, ‘We know you’re not going to accept it, but we still want you to understand that we want you here.’ It was more that gesture, than anything. Didn’t go out of my way to ask, or anything like that. It was just kind of put in front of me, or given to me, to show that they want me to be here. I didn’t get a chance to say yes or no. They already were under the understanding, or they knew I wasn’t going to accept it, anyway. It’s business. That’s how this business works. I’m just focused on getting better. I’ve got to get minutes. Everything else will take care of itself. They didn't even give him a chance to answer. Does that sound like a real offer to you?
Correct a token extension. They didn't offer him a "max contract", they have offered him the max extension which is the most he could have gotten.... unless he waited until the offseason to get more. I'm not hand waving anything away, but explaining to you what happened. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...-2-year-452-million-extension-houston-rockets
Dude what about offering a max do you not understand? What happens if he decided to take it? Why do you keep ignoring that fact? I have read all of that before, and it does not negate the fact they offered him the max no matter how much hand waving you are doing. Yes it does sound like a realm offer even hen said was a real offer, do you think they would have rescinded if he accepted it? Did you miss this part? We know you’re not going to accept it, but we still want you to understand that we want you here.
The sham extension has been covered multiple times, and paying Allen required a longer commitment. Dumping Allen also allowed them to shed Prince's salary. Y'all seem to keep ignoring that part. Clearing payroll is not free.
LOL..... Because they clearly knew he wasn't going to accept it...... They offered a max contract extension not a max contract.
Because that issue is irrelevant to why you keep bringing it up. The Rockets didn't offer him an extension to keep him around. It was a nice gesture that goes on in the NBA all the time. GMs and front offices know where players and agents stand most of the time. When you make that kind of offer you make it knowing it's a pleasantry. But since you insist on having that irrelevant hypo answered, I think they would have just been stuck paying him if they gave him a formal contract to sign off on and he signed it and it was submitted. But they knew going in that wasn't going to happen.
Wait wut? They offered him all they could, how is that token? I know what they did and they offered him everything thing they could and probably would have given him the whole bag in the offseason if did not get injured. None of that is what I consider token.
So why offer? What if he did accept it? He himself said they were hoping he accepted it. They offered him everything they could that's a max contract, be it extension or otherwise.
