Okay I’m sold now. Nix, KPJ, Matthews, Wood, Sengun to start. Schroeder, Green, KJM, Tate, JGup going small but mixing in Sengun and Wood if you have to have a big. Gordon for spot duty only to preserve his health. That second unit would be crazy fast and athletic. Tate needs to be traded this off-season as much as his hustle is liked. He is a foul machine, is too short, and can’t shoot 3’s, but if he is not needed to make a trade, he should definitely be coming off the bench as a role player. If Nix is the real deal then Schroeder, Gordon, Nwaba, and maybe Wood should be shipped off or let to expire. If we can’t bundle veterans with picks to get some difference makers next year, we roll with a roster like this: KPJ Green Matthews Sengun Rookie Nix Jaygup KJM Garuba or Tate (if still here) Other Rookie We would probably suck again for another top 5 pick and the get serious on the trade front and FA market for a playoff run in 2023-24.
We own the better of our pick and the Brooklyn pick. 2024-26 is when the Rockets lose their picks (or bad side of swap) with Thunder.
The more I see of Nix the more I like him. He is really shifty in traffic and has good handles. Always seems to have his head up and seeing the open man. Plays at a good pace and is always in control. Can't wait to see him on the squad getting time with our young guns. I think he will have a big impact on the offense.
We own our 23 pick. Things don’t get sticky until 24 and we also have Brooklyn picks and swaps and light protections on the picks going to OKC. Top 1-4 protection in 2024.
This is the kind of PG Rockets need a methodical one that isn't always looking to shoot. If the rockets can just shed all the damn vets the Rookies would be a lot more fun to watch. They share the ball. Nix Shoots a lot on the Vipers but when he was with the big team he was sharing a lot more Rockets were so dumb to just hand the keys over to KPJ. KPJ is playing much better now but I really do not like his brand of basketball. It never looks like he is controlling the game. Nix looks like Van Vleet out there.
With Nix on the roster thats 7 developmental prospects: Christopher KPJ Green Sengun kJ Martin Nix Garuba I don’t count Tate and Mathews (at 25/26 I don’t consider them developmental prospects) If we are giving minutes to our veterans there’s not enough minutes for all of these prospects. We are going to have to make some trades this offseason.
Yeah, but KPJ looked like prime Jordan down in the G-League. lol. So many of Nix's points come inside on layups, I'd be shocked if he converted or even got those same shots in the NBA, but we'll see. He does make pretty good passes, but I'm more curious to see how his scoring/shot selection translates. He'll more than likely come in against scrubs to start if he gets any time, I would guess. Maybe we should bring up Trevelin Queen, too. He can be Scottie Pippen for our new modern Bulls team. lol. I was surprised nobody started condemning the Rockets for not calling him up after his 40/10/5/5 game, leading the GLeague in steals and being among the leaders in scoring.
Agreed. Queen may end up being the better NBA player of the two. Already the better G League player imo. Queen is exactly what a high end 3-D player should play like.
Yes, but that still leaves the same question : how will his skills translate? I sometimes hate the G League because of this. Isaiah Hartenstein was Wilt down there at times. There are guys leading that league in stats that'll probably be borderline end-of-bench players in this league if they're lucky. I just want Nix to continue getting in shape and pray that his jumpshot is getting better and not a fluke. I think his passing, for the most part, is legit, though, so that's good. IQ is IQ, the only thing variant about it to me is how fast he can process stuff going on in the NBA. Can't wait to see him up (assuming Schroder doesn't steal most of his minutes). I like Nix better as a "real" PG, but his offense needs to translate for him to be able to contribute well in the NBA.
Well, I was half-saying that tongue-in-cheek, but those two are probably deserving of some kind of looksee in the NBA eventually. The Rockets and, I think Lakers(?), looked at him earlier in his career and didn't bring him up for any extended time, but he looks like he's playing a lot better this season. The only problem is, I don't see every young player putting up points in the G-League getting any kind of real extended run up here since we're already top-heavy with young kids that need to get minutes. I mean, if Christopher is going to barely be getting minutes most nights, I don't know what kind of time Nix is going to get, but we'll see.
