The only reason SHOULD be because he hasn't been looking disappointing. He's been quite impressive to those who are honest and know what they are seeing when they watch basketball. He's by no means a finished product, no teenager is, but he's by far the most impressive rookie on the team and if he had been getting minutes and touches all season like some other rookies on the team, he might be considered one of the top rookies in the class.
I know exactly what I’m seeing when I watch basketball. He has had flashes, but cut the bs. He has not been “quite impressive” as you say as of late and I outlined why. Whether it be because of Silas’s coaching or lack thereof, scouting, or his own physical limitations, there has certainly been a noticeable decline. Right now, he literally needs the entire offense and defense to conform to his needs in order to cover up his weakness. Red flag for a future “franchise player.” He is going to have to prove that he is a very special player in order for that to happen. On offense he can’t shoot and on defense he is incapable of guarding on the perimeter. I project that he will one day fix his shooting woes, but I’m not sure what he needs to do to his body in order to be the kind of defensive player teams want at the center position. Ironic how now using the excuse that he is only a teenager and not a finished product applies to one player, but not another. I agree with you on that part at least. Sengun will get much better than the player we see today. I TRULY hope for the sake of my favorite team of all time that he becomes everything some of you want him to be or even think he is right now.
Well, you're wrong, but that's fine. It's just weird that you'd attempt to be so negative about the best rookie on the roster while getting upset when people point out who the worst player on the roster is. I mean you harp on Sengun's rare defensive struggles....but compared to Green he's Olajuwon. Also, the Rockets didn't waste the #2 pick on him....and his fans weren't calling him the next Kobe....instead he's exceeded every expectation thus far despite being held back by foolish rotation decisions by the coach. It just seems like a desperate reach to try and deflect for another player who has looked like trash nearly the entire season.
I don’t run around sh!ting on Sengun after every bad game he plays. I could though, but I like him as a player and want him to succeed because I want the Rockets to be successful. That’s the difference between you and I. This is probably only the 2nd time I’ve posted anything where I critiqued his play and it’s not unfounded criticism. The vast majority of my posts about Sengun have been highlights of his or complaining that I think he needs to play more so don’t even try to paint me as a poster that attempts to prop one rookie up by tearing another rookie down. That’s what you and a handful of other posters do.
The only people who whine about valid criticism are Jalen Green cultists.... so if you have valid criticism of Sengun, no one will care.
They know they're just being petulant children about the whole thing. They look like idiots now but they'll have nothing to hide behind in the future
Just remember, these guys are the type of fans who would be celebrating acquiring Divac for Kobe. All the same reasoning applies. They would be making it seem as though both players will improve equally moving forward so the better player right now is the trade winner - a total myth, even less true when comparing a college to HS player. They’re irrationally mad at the organization and punching down on the kid as if he picked himself second. Incapable of putting together a non-anecdotal assessment of the front office. Incapable of seeing a good or bad game without getting triggered. Think about it right now: regardless of any kind of game Green has next or how he finishes the season, they're going to spew these fringe ideas about Green. @CXbby is holic all over again, over reaching in his posts on the strength of a random roughly correct prediction some time back. Made up reasons why such a player is better for winning, made up idea that big men are more important to a title, obviously more attached to his prediction than our teams well-being, etc. He’s more optimistic about Mobley than the Cavs or their fans, which is bizarre but again reminds me of holic. We had such a great draft and these guys are on some weird fringe predictions over polluting.
Not quite, the issue with CXbby is he wants to be right and he probably picked Sengün over Green and wants him to have more success. It is not everyone‘s thing for sure but you cannot develop everyone to the same extent. The Harden WB Durant Ibaka Jeff Green example is just not going to happen. Bigs are pretty underrated in this era, the Rockets have enjoyed having great big men during history. History is mostly right. Screw the Kobe comparison, it is only going to mess with your head, man.
he's starting to figure it out defensively. if he raises his shot % to just a meager 35% how much better would the numbers look?
The odds of Green becoming a top 10 player ever is like .01%. But no one thought Kobe at 19 was going to be that either. He had a rather pedestrian first two seasons in the league.
I don't agree with any of these predictions you posted, why would I change my mind? I think we're just far apart on our predictions for these players. As far as I see, we had a transformational draft that is going to propel us to championships. You think we had a mediocre or bad one. No need to rehash.
Kobe scored better and shot much better from the field in his age-19 season. He came off the bench for a 61-win team that made the WCF, and made the All-Star team. He was much better at getting to the basket and getting to the line. Green's shot profile includes settling for too many bad 3s for a guy who is athletic but a poor shooter. He's not going to come anywhere close to a Kobe-lite unless he can harness Kobe's competitiveness and work ethic.
Btw, for the 10000000000000th time, in this thread Green is Kobe. In the other thread he's not. Find harmony.
Age 19 Kobe also had a full NBA season under his belt. I would compare their respective rookie seasons. What made Kobe Kobe was that rare level of work ethic and competitiveness. We have no clue what Green is going to be like after a full off-season and the level of work ethic he has. So at this point making predictions about what he's going to look like in his prime is like predicting who the president of the US will be in 2032.
