“How many more people have to die before they change the policy, before they do something?” said protester Mary Wang.

Community activists wondered why Nash had been released in the first place.

Many of the crimes in our community are committed by homeless individuals who are mentally distressed,” one person said.

For that reason, neighbors have been protesting a sixth homeless shelter the city is trying to open in Chinatown. Hundreds spoke out at last week’s public hearing and called the proposal insensitive while the neighborhood is under attack.

Furious Chinatown Residents Flood Public Hearing On Plans For New Homeless Shelter

“You are killing our people. You are killing our business. You are killing our livelihood,” resident Mary Wang said.

The issue at hand — a homeless shelter that the city plans to open next year on East Broadway by Forsythe Street. Residents say it will be the sixth shelter in their neighborhood.

“I feel not safe living in this community because I’m surrounded by shelters,” one resident said.

“We have more shelters than anyone,” another person said.

It's a horrible story but it does point out there is a need to get these type of people off of the street. In this case there are certainly several questions of why was he still allowed to roam. IN general though our mental health system isn't good and if anything more shelters and treatment centers need to be built.

@Sweet Lou 4 2 probably doesn't believe it happened and it was 'politically'
    motivated.

i believe the logic is correct, this community DOES NOT want 6 homeless shelters and there's been evidence that it's mentally ill people with rap sheets doing crime.

Need to look at each ‘homeless’ person as an individual
If you are mentally ill and you have a criminal record
You can’t be near citizens you have to be moved for treatment and jail depending on the crimes

Why make up things like this? You know very well that I wouldn't - that or you simply don't comprehend what I have been saying.

This isn't a new problem. In 1994 I had a homeless person break into my apartment in the middle of the night - kicked the door down. That was nearly 30 years ago.

The resources and money simply aren't there to address the problem. The police didn't care back then, and they don't care now.

you think the people of chinatown in NYC have the right be angry that they want to build a SIXTH homeless shelter?

and that the community activist said these are done by people who should have NEVER BEEN RELEASED into the public?

He does have a point though, unless you’re so smart that no one can comprehend what you post.

I am not sure why you are asking me these questions. Of course people will be angry if you build a homeless shelter near them. Of course people will be angry if people who commit crimes get released.

What's your point? You are arguing against a strawman.

this has nothing to do with homeless. Question is why this criminal was released in the first place. Could it be the NYPD? They aren't doing their jobs but want more funding, for what?

I could be wrong because I have not been here long enough but you seemed to not accept things as prima facie, the few posts that I have seen you on.

Not the NYPD but the activist DA, the ahole new mayor, the incompetent governor and then finally Brandon and the Dems. I’ve said it before, if you want this madness to stop, and it’s all over the country, not just NY city, you need to kick each and every one of those Dem politicians from the lowest city councilman all the way to the commander- in chief out of office. You will have law and order restored.

I’m one of the legendary posters on the board
Some of the haters just won’t agree with me because of truth and jealousy

the 99er envy is real. Most of these posters are Tracy McGrady or Lin fans

When a young woman is stalked and stabbed 40 times

they will still be in favor of the killer because of
    ‘Fake political’ reasons

There’s been countless attacks by mentally I’ll homeless people on innocent people

let’s just say in these certain cities they are rampant because of local politics thinking keeping them happily homeless is the best idea

Mental illness and drug use is never stopped
    Especially drug use
That’s because the rich people love drugs too

Go to LA and ask for coke anywhere , you’ll find it out easily

You are talking about NYC - there are hundreds and hundreds of homeless shelters so obviously you will have more than 6 in an "area" depending on how you define it. I looked into this and the reason they are building it is because 4 homeless people were murdered while sleeping on the street in 2019. Believe it or not, but not all homeless people are black.

Anyway here are the stats by nabe for NYC homeless shelter beds. You can decide for yourself what is too much or not.

People get angry when people aren’t released on bail enough (Bail reform) and people get angry when people get released on bail too easily.

    lose-lose situation
