Don’t give a bad rep to n95 (or kf94). They can be as comfortable and as easy to breathe as a surgical mask. There is no n95 designed for a kid's smaller face btw, so it’s likely loose fitting.

The collapse was due to dehydration - lack of water intake while playing bb. The stupid thing here is multiples - you don’t need to mask outdoor in general, even if you do, you shouldn't prevent anyone from drinking water (indoor or outdoor).

I don't understand why you'd put a n95 mask on a child, or put a mask on a child outdoors. I guess the mother said dehydration but it was actually heat exhaustion with the mask could be a contributor since breathing is important to managing body temp.

For better protection when indoor. But up to each child. My 3rd grader wears kn94 (similar to n95). He likes it better than surgical masks. High quality n95/knf94 (not the fake stuff that is widely available on Amazon) is as easy to wear was my point.

That sounds like an extreme risk averse policy. I don't think you should require kids to wear masks outdoor, especially while playing sport.

What does the 2022 survey show after the kids have had an opportunity to get more used to them?

Perhaps I am not remembering timelines correctly, but I'm pretty sure in October 2020 school age kids in the USA weren't wearing masks too often since the vast majority of schools were virtual

It is not something they should get used to. Do you not even realize how you are accepting "crazy" as the new normal?

    I'm actually surprised it's only 2/3 and not 3/3

While I think its time for masks to be phased out, I never understood how crazy people get to claim all these awful oppressive things. No one complained about masks at the beginning of the pandemic, it only became an issue once the whole thing got politicized.

Is it unfortunate that they (or anyone) has to get used to a mask - yes. Is it something that one can get used to - also, yes.

Am I accepting it? Sure. Do I want things to calm down to the point where we don't have to be as worried about it - also, sure.

When do you think that point would be reached? When would you no longer force small children to wear masks?

I think we're approaching that point.

Blaming this on the “left” is quite stupid, and I lean right. There is an argument here for sure but this is an exaggeration thrrad

Truth is I don’t know where I stand in regards to masking children, need more data. I wouldn’t say it’s “child abuse” though.

That's a study in Germany. It's biased toward complaints (it's an optional online survey that most people will ignore unless they have something to say).

Here is a study that focused on students' concentration and cognition with a control group in Germany. No differences were found. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8774884/

Again, you can look at Asian countries. Masking is the norm after many of them went through SARS1. They don't complain about it.

Is it better to not mask - sure. Is it an issue - sure, for some, especially someone such as those with hearing impairment. Is it a huge deal - no, I don't think so. I'm sure for some it is and thus what I support is masking as a societal norm (when sick or when there is a high spread of a contagious pathogen) but not required except for emergency public health scenarios.
