For car hunts, I used sites like cargurus and truecar for their filtered searches for the make I want. Over time, you'll get an idea of whether particular dealers are selling ridiculously cheap cars (potential lemons or rental beaters) and get an overall picture of the market. When you do find some potential targets, you can get a carfax or similar report for pretty cheap. People used to sell them for 5 bucks a pop. That might seem more like fishing than impulse buying as it usually takes months to find that car you want at a great price. Also, with more blue (city) states opening up, the vehicle/chip shortage might extend to next year. Can't always time the cheapest prices...
Well just look at OP. He didn't even price a new car...went straight to used..because the assumption is used car is cheaper than new. (as it should be). But right now used cars are more because there aren't many new cars on the lot. So impatient or needy people are bidding up used cars until it's not rational anymore.
I hear you. I really wanted to replace the Sequoia with a Tacoma...fat tires and lifted a bit. But when the guys that work on these cars every single day say to avoid the newer Tacoma models because they see them brought in frequently for design flaws that Toyota has yet to fix, then I'm going to listen to them. Of course I'm just some bloke on the internets that could be blowing smoke up everyone's arse. But where would the fun in that be? I'm a lover, not a fighter.
Agreed. I generally am I'm the used space because Historically I got better value. I am generally on the lower end. Found real bargains below 5k Unsure about that this time. Bargain at 5k is overpriced at 7k Most times Esp since I need a vehicle that is more suv Larger Rocket River
We have a 2015 Subaru Outback that has served us well. I think we're around 95K miles now and haven't had to do any crazy repair, just normal maintenance. We have the 2.5L 4 cylinder. It's my wife's car and her previous vehicles were a toyota corolla and a 1995 eagle summit, so she doesn't know anything about it being underpowered. I think these days they have a 4 cylinder turbo option. The one we have probably is a bit under powered, because it is a pretty big vehicle (think long, like driving an old lincoln kind of thing), but it's a family car, we're not looking to win any races (currently putting three kids in the back of the thing).
Nice. Thanks everyone. Anyone know about lemon laws. Grin Working with the dealer with some issues that were suppose to be taken car of...... Minor things but their level of responsiveness is concerning. Rocket River
a few years ago I had asked on this forum about honda crv 05 , got an Ok from our expert # ccity zero. so much fun car, decided to keep it until I ran it into the ground when asked by others... which sorta what happened
Might be able to get a good deal on a truck or SUV or even look at taking over payments from someone with gas price trajectory. Otherwise I'd shop new Teslas, I hear you can make a killing doing Uber on the side.
went on a short solo trip hiking, then filled a trailer with saskatoon berry pots . Then insane sequences happen(stranded, avalanche, floods, wash out bridges, rinse and repeat.. got tangled with hydro power lines which saved me from falling) ,crawled underneath the car as I was trying to disconnect the jacked knifed trailer and heard the ground shaking, could not see, so dark and had my light bulb shorted earlier, which made the whole thing nearly blind folded I decided to stop and walk away. Later on I found that i spent hours on thin pavement crust and 1" away from falling. There was no phone signal or gps ,the nearest place was a town which completely went into flame last summer .a week later I had a chance finally to speak to my 10 years son ,the first thing he said: Dad dont worry, your team still loosing
Holy **** man, glad you're okay! So.... Up till when everything went to Hell and almost dying, was the car okay up to that point? Man, regardless, that's still one hell of series of events you went through, I can't imagine what that must have been like. You could probably publish something on that or buy a lot of lottery tickets, I mean that's just one thing after another that kept coming.
Hahah maybe I should The clutch was stiff then only worked in 4th gear, I have recovered the car and trailer last month, seems like the (release bearing was damaged and broke into flywheel, I also damaged the clutch fork and gears when I forced into Reverse to stop by all means . the craziest moment was when I walked into Lytton BC , big sign: Do Not Stop, Asbestos, lead fumes on site, Do Not Role Down your window.
That's absolutely insane, just wild story. I remember you saying you were looking at the manual crv, even though the outcome sucked nice driving! I mean all things considered I really think I'd prefer a manual in that situation over an auto. I think when the **** hits the fan, or beyond that point (where you were at) having that manual definitely seems to give you some extra last second options imo. that's just insane though for you to pull it off and really glad it all worked. I also honestly don't know if I could pull it off what you went through but a manual sounds better in that situation I'd think at least... Man, I can't believe you had to walk through all that too, I saw you mention a little bit earlier about the hike but **** man, just crazy through lead/asbestos area too. How long did it take roughly to find help?
