Over the last 2 seasons, the Rockets have made trades that I would have thought were good when I was 13 years old.

"Man, Schroder averages 14 PPG, great trade for a scrub like Theis"

Rockets did reach out to offer Wall for Westbrook but wanted the Lakers to include a 1st round pick. Lakers declined and that was the end of that. — Chris Haynes

Choosing Dipo over Allen, LaVert, or a 1st rounder in the Harden trade = really bad

drafting Josh Christopher in the late 1st round = good

drafting Jalen Green over Mobley = bad

trading two late 1st rounders to get Sengun = good

    signing Christian Wood = good

    signing Daniel Theis = bad

finding Tate, KPJ, KJ Martin, and Mathews = really good

failure to improve the team the last two deadlines = bad

It’s a mixed bag. I’m not on the fire Stone train yet but I have serious concerns about our front office and don’t like the foundation of Wood, Green and KJP.

Part of me was still hoping that we would have one of these delayed trade announcements, and Wood doesn't suit up tonight. I don't mind keeping Gordon (although we should have gotten a first round pick). But Wood, man, I really wanted him gone.

To be fair, I think the plan is to source another foundation piece in the upcoming draft.
I doubt Wood is seen as a foundation piece- more like a stop gap until we get a top 3 pick.

The next foundation piece add would be summer 2023 with the cap space - and (so far) the FO has done a decent job preserving that.

Can we win more than 25 games next season to make ourselves look at least somewhat attractive? Dunno...

Shocking that no one thought Wood or Gordon was worth a 1st round pick. A freaking first round pick?

Morey built Houston up to challenge GS by trading away 1st round picks. Heck we gave up a 1st round pick to get rid of Jeremy Lin!

Really difficult to overstate just how bad these personnel failures are by Stone. Gordon will never have higher value than he has right now. Next season he'll be an expiring, at which point he'll be looked at like Dragic was this deadline. By not trading him, they lost all of his value.

I for one have lost confidence in Stone. Other GMs build up their players value. They are able to "sell" them to other teams. They navigate back channels. Stone seems to suck -- and I mean, suck a lot -- at all of these things.

I guarantee teams would give up a FRP for Wood. He’s worth more than that.

This is where I'm at. Stone is sifting through talent. Rockets really need to win one of the first 2 picks or hope Brooklyn pick is high enough to be able to trade up for one of them.

On being able to win 25 next season, I expect Green either improves or plays less.

Rockets big need to win more games is stars and not be developing so many guys.

Great post! I too don't love that foundation of Wood, Green and KJP but hoping for real developments. KJP has some signs of improvement (although not the break through we were hoping for this year), Green has definitely struggled but he still has the physical tools and seems to have the work ethic, he needs to fill out physically and gain his confidence back. Wood is pretty much in his prime I think. He definitely should be traded in the offseason or next year trade deadline

christopher, Sengun give me hope. And you are right that KPJ has been improving a lot. It’s definitely questionable though to build your foundation off of two guys with a history of maturity issues and a raw 19 yr old.

No disgruntled star is going to want to come to the Rockets after 22-23. So you either way over pay for good but not great players in free agency, trade for a non star or sign some role players.

The Rockets need to get better through the draft. An unprotected 2027 Lakers pick could be quite valuable potentially. Instead the Rockets have the same **** they had before the deadline.
