Breaking 1-06-21: MAGA terrorist attack on Capitol

So the ministry of truth here is the invisible hand?

Who here wants the government to enforce censorship through an arbitrary notion of what "objective truth" is?

I'm sure Democrat legislatures exist who do want that and I'll be against their desire for such a thing.

 

I think the key section was about real "misinformation":

For instance, there are a large number of people who believe the earth is flat. I don’t mean the comedians at the Flat Earth Society, but internet randos who are sincere in thinking the earth is a disc, and who are convinced the government knows this and is hiding it for some reason.

There are podcasts, websites, and social media posts galore on this topic. Yet the government and the oligarchs never move to quash this movement. There are no denouncements or speeches about mis- or disinformation. The flat earthers are allowed their strange belief—and nobody in power cares.

Because, of course, there is no consequence to elites if some believe the earth is flat. No government or oligarchic “solution” is opposed. There is no political friction. Even regime scientists ignore the topic.

If something you disagree with is just flat out stupid, the rational thing to do is to ignore it.

Instead, if something (or someone) (or some source) genuinely threatens your worldview in some way, you generally have two options: (1) engage with it; or (2) try and tar it with ad hominems and rant-like foaming at the mouth, to show how much you disagree with it.

We see a lot of (2) here.

 

I see Flat Earthers get mocked and criticized a fair amount.

Tweeter should have read the article. It doesn't allege that phone records were destroyed. Trump regularly used his private cell phone, or others' cell phones to conduct government business, so those calls aren't in the White House log. They are trying to get them from the phone companies. Still, it's a story about how Trump's daily habits were designed to obscure what he was doing in the White House, not just when he was planning and executing coups, but every damn day.

Flushing evidence down the toilet is the kind of thing drug dealers do.

 

You can tell he watches too much TV.

 

As long as we can all agree there was no election fraud committed significant enough to change the outcome of the 2021 election
AND that the 2021 US Capitol attack was and act of domestic terrorism
AND that those who stormed the capitol, not those only there to protest are domestic terrorists
THEN we are ALL on the same page!

 

The data would probably be impractical to collect, but I bet if the archivist graphed the number of pages in their collection produced annually in the White House, it would steadily rise year-over-year for decades (with improvements in computer tech, the growth of the remit of the federal government, and increasing data-intensity of decision-making), and then dip for the Trump White House.
