The next HC that Cal hires needs to be early in the hiring cycle.

You don't know that. Just because the media didn't report it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Again, I'll point out that they cleaned out the coaching staff except for Lovie guys AND took Lovie's advice when looking for new coaches. It's clear they really respected him.

You're leaping to an assumption and as Keyshawn said the other day when arguing against this idea...The Texans are under no obligation to do a favor for the 31 other teams. The idea that the lawsuit forced the Texans to hire a black coach then why wouldn't the NFL get multiple black coaches hired right after Flores filed his suit? Teams were still hiring white coaches until the Texans hired Lovie.

The only thing I think the Flores suit changed was that it took Flores out of the running for any job but I suspect as mentioned before in this thread that he had an inkling he wasn't favored for any of the jobs.

Would’ve liked to interview Daboll, Mayo and DeMeco personally.

I think they've both been clear that Lovie wasn't a candidate until the last minute. Lovie even acknowledges it.

But also agree with your point that they were keeping Lovie Smith around and we should factor that into how we process the hire.

Mayo and Demeco agree. Daboll not a fan of personally and seems like they didn't have a chance to hire him any way.

Remember when Wade Phillips was fired as the Houston Texans' defensive coordinator Saturday, a day after Bill O'Brien was hired as the team's head coach? That in itself showed what a dumbass he was. Yep, I remember when Wade led the best defense in the NFL.

They literally announced every interview on social media. Do you think they really keep this one under wraps?

There were only 2 openings left once the suit was announced…the Texans and the Saints. The major difference between them being that the Saints opening was much fresher and they quickly decided to stay in-house.

If you want to believe this Was on the up and up, good for you. Be one of the 14 people that show up next season. I am done with this team until ownership is gone.

Actually, no, more than 2. Jaguars, Texans, Saints, and Dolphins all hired coaches after Flores filed his suit. Why didn't the NFL strongly suggest 3 of those teams hire black coaches?

I never said this was on the up and up. My point was never about if the Texans should have hired Lovie or if it was a good or bad move. My point was that people are still suggesting that Texans are part of the problem when it comes to hiring black coaches when they are the only team this offseason to...well...actually hire a black coach.

Hiring and "hiring".... Actively seeking and settling... Interviewing and token interviewing (or in this case, not even planning on interviewing).

The Texans... and most NFL teams... deserve all the ridicule being thrown at them. The commissioner can't not say this is a problem even though his owners would love him to try and cover it up as he's done with past issues. These are the 'only' jobs Lovie Smith and David Cully can realistically get, and all universally acknowledge that they're place-holders at best.

All HC regardless of skin color can be deemed “placeholders” …average HC for any color over last 20 years is what maybe 3 or 4 seasons. I believe Lovie can exceed that average

Well, he checks the right boxes, and these days, that's the most important thing.

    Hope it works out.

I hate to be the one to break this to you but Easterbunny sits between Nick The Savior and the McNairs so it's his goal as well.

Spin is definitely the word to use here - just check out the Brian T. Smith "Keep Hope Alive" article in Texas Sports Nation. Having three former Texans' players - all black - to act as window dressing at the Nick C head coach presser (volume 2) was a nice touch as well.

Gets even better...they didn't even get their names right.

"I think it's important to give as many black coaches as possible an opportunity to work up through the ranks," Smith said.

Cal and Hannah McNair, newly-promoted Offensive Coordinator Pep Hamilton and returning Special Teams Coordinator Frank Ross and their families were among the attendees. Texans Legends Andre Johnson, Johnathan Joseph, Travis Scott and Cecil Shorts III also were in the audience.
