HBO has released the first trailer and photos from Adam McKay’s new drama series “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” which chronicles the Showtime-era of the Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s.

The ten-episode scripted drama, based on Jeff Pearlman’2s non-fiction book, follows the professional and personal lives of one of sports/ most revered and dominant dynasties. The first photos show some famous moments, including what looks like a recreation of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s cameo as the co-pilot in the iconic comedy “Airplane!”.

The series stars John C. Reilly as Jerry Buss, Jason Clarke as Jerry West, Adrien Brody as Pat Riley, Sally Field as Jessie Buss, Solomon Hughes as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Quincy Isaiah as Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson, Jason Segel as Paul Westhead, Michael Chiklis as Red Auerbach, Gaby Hoffmann as Claire Rothman, Hadley Robinson as Jeanie Buss, DeVaughn Nixon as Norm Nixon, Molly Gordon as Linda Zafrani, Rob Morgan as Earvin Johnson Sr. and many more.

Max Borenstein and Jim Hecht co-created and co-wrote the series and executive produce with the former serving as showrunner. McKay directed the pilot and executive produces alongside Kevin Messick, Scott Stephens, Rodney Barnes and Jason Shuman.

I didn’t realize that Adam McKay and Will Ferrell no longer work or even speak to each other because McKay replaced Ferrell with John C. Reilly in this series and didn’t call and tell him. I think Reilly is a better choice, but it’s crazy that McKay did that.

Well I would imagine that since Will is a big fan of USC football that he is obviously a big Lakers fan and the guy did do a movie on basketball called "Semi-Pro" so yeah I don't blame him for being pissed at McKay - I would too if I was him.

Yeah, in the profile it says Ferrell really wanted the part because he’s a Lakers fan. Also, John C. Reilly is his best friend. So, McKay fires his long-time friend and business partner from a role he really wanted and replaces him with his best friend and doesn’t contact to tell him what happened. Cold as ****.

John C Reilly is 100x the actor Ferrell is. This would be like Jeremy Lin being upset that he was replaced by an actual point guard.
