Can you imagine being Westbrook, where your career was defined by all those triple doubles only to find out late in your career that your shooting sucked and has always held you back from being a great player.

Now, no one wants him.....lol --- this is why fundamentals are better than athleticism.

This is why the spurs were competitive for so long, they had players with fundamentals, and it is why CP3 is still incredibly valuable in this league. Hopefully we learned from this last draft and will adjust to look for smarter players that have the ability to be well rounded athletes.

I don't buy it. Why would Tilman give WB a buyout but not Wall.

Because the Rockets get a pick to do it. Plus as mentioned RW likely gets another deal this summer where Wall is iffy given his injury history. So Russ probably shaves money off the top. Either way though Tillman is going to pay most if not all of that salary for a player who isn’t going to play so the Tillman factor doesn’t loom that large over this situation.

There's almost nothing to gain here. I'd say, just keep those you can get rid faster without losing anything.

Would love for it to happen but Wall trade is the longest of long shots.

Tilman is too cheap and Stone is too incompetent.

Okay, perhaps incompetent is extreme but he is not nearly as capable as he talks himself up to be.

Wow, candid by James, but he's also such a drama queen.

Never been a better time to pull this off. Lakers are ripe for being fleeced. Westbrook would be a terrible addition, but if you can buy him out, it could be worth it. Stone should be all over them today.

You aren’t likely to get anything for Wall elsewhere, so if you can extract that 2027 FRP by exchanging him for Westbrook, they should be all over that.

As for the buyout, I wouldn’t do that. I would give him the same option that Wall had. I would say the odds are at least even that Westbrook would opt out of the final year. If not, hold onto him until the deadline before exploring the buyout.

Yes to all this. Westbrook still thinks he is a superstar. At worst the buyout won’t be as painful

You know at first I just thought naturally you buy the guy out in the first minute after the trade.

However after seeing what… three teams now still trade for Russ I’m really really tempted to hold him till the Summer to see if someone gets Russ beer goggles again. Look at what Sacramento did yesterday. Russ could be very enticing to a team so desperate to be relevant and while you aren't going to fleece a team, you might be able to extract a couple second round picks this Summer.

Yes I really can't see them wasting a LeBron season at age 37
when he put about $200,000 into his body to stay in shape for
a Westbrook have us eliminated in the first round stand pat move.

Guys like Ariza, Avery Bradley have no value to help improve the team.
THT is worth something only in the minds of the Lakers.

Not like they can obtain another first round pick to move Westbrook....they want
Wall on that wall.....they need Wall on that wall !! [ A Few Good Men - movie reference ]

Here, Here. If Westbrook won’t accept a buyout would he, unlike Wall, be willing to come off the bench? Not saying I would want that, but if he did we might actually be in the play-in. Right now when KPJ goes out our defense is terrible. Westbrook is not great at defense, but is still solid when trying.

I would say, no to Westbrook coming off the bench willingly

Westbrook demanded a trade from Houston while being a starter and now probably
would be a backup. He will probably be at home on the phone with his agent saying
get me out of here (Rockets).

But that's ok.....we have Wall doing that right now. At least Tilman gets
a first round pick out of it in which he can use to move up in the draft.
Many see that pick as a good lottery pick as LeBron probably retires.

*small note disclaimer......they have no draft picks to restock the shelves prior
to said LeBron retirement. The few they have are not expected to be positioned
    very well.

I agree, just hypothesizing. I don’t know if the Lakers will suck or not. AD still has tremendous trade value. They could send him off in the off-season for a pretty good haul and they are the premier FA landing spot. I would still do the trade and buy-out Westbrook if he would give us a deal.

    I would as well.

Westbrook has a !of of ego and would probably tell his agent get me
50 cents to the dollar and get me out of here (Houston).
That's $47M of final season of deal dropping to $23.5M and a chance
to latch on with another team. Westbrook thinks he is top 5 NBA material
    still.

Tilman saves money by getting Westbrook out of here and
hopes to get another top 5 draft pick this summer.

Again in theory; we've chatted about the pros and cons of doing
such a move. I feel Sacramento is the model I don't want to follow.
They've been stacking the deck for years and have nothing to show for it.
Now Buudy Hield is due to leave and they have to sell him off. Are they
really advancing or just spinning their wheels?

I know the media hyped the Lakers up (like always) but who actually thought that washed up roster was a legit contender
