I love how Caserio can sit there and lie with a straight face. He's really, really good. When he's done playing football messiah, he has a great future in espionage.
He had DC's in Chicago..... Ron Rivera and Bob Babich that I can remember. He even let Babich run the defense for a couple of years before the defense struggled and Smith took back over. Whoever it is, will likely be someone that Smith is good friends with... he doesn't usually do so well with coaches he is not so familiar with. He fired Ron Rivera after doing a great job running the defense.
It's a class action lawsuit against the NFL and all member clubs. The Texans are already named in the lawsuit. They weren't one of the teams the statement mentioned, but they are a named defendant referenced in the filing along with all other NFL teams.
Let's hope it isn't his son Mikal Smith... who was his assistant with the Bears. He was arrested for being a pimp last year.... not a very Texans look. Then again Cal is used to stealing money from people after ****** them, so maybe it is a good fit.
Texans really pushing Frank Ross (ST coach) in all this. He got name dropped repeatedly at the press conference and is doing the media rounds today. Weird.
He was with him in Chicago. He was in charge of the linebackers if I remember right. FWIW ex Bears lobbied very hard for Marinelli to be named the Bears DC this off season.
Special Teams is hugely important to Lovie Smith..... when he was in Chicago, special teams seemed like it was the difference between winning and losing often.
Lovie said coaches are turning down jobs elsewhere to join his staff. Not clear if he's talking about Pep and Frank Ross or if he means yet to be named coaches. (Hoping the latter)
DLine I believe in Chicago. Think he's always either DLine or DCoordinator. He's well regarded at both.
It is...... just hard to explain, but in Chicago under Smith it was discussed and treated as an equal part of the equation as the offense and defense. The Bears were usually at the top of the NFL in special teams. Smith used to bring up his special teams coach and players often when talking to the press.
I know i misheard him say " There's not much separation between team 32 and team 1"... Please tell me I misinterpreted ...
You just described the Saints, they did the same thing, but they are not considered a poorly run franchise? Why?
Old school run offense doesn’t work in the NFL. I guess that is why he is hoping the defense can score. Also: So Caserio saved his amazing process for his second coaching hire in his second year?
