Caserio most definitely will. It really starts by promoting Pep to OC Next is who will be DC his son? Marinelli? Now with a full treasure chest of draft picks and even more with a Watson and tunsil trade. And lots of cap space Lovie will for sure have more resources to field a way more competitive team.
Lovie can only survive beyond one year if he pulls off a miracle and gets the Texans to the playoffs. Doing so would make it impossible for him to be fired. Anything less and the dipshits on Kirby can fire him and do whatever it is they really want to do. And make no mistake, Lovie was not their guy. And make no mistake, these idiots are allowed to do whatever they want because Cal is a moron and there is no accountability. So let’s all be clear about what happened here. It’s just another episode of the Texans sh-tshow.
I know how that in hiring process works. Believe me. I see schools doing that all the time with sham interviews only to hire who they wanted to begin with. I'm sure lots of companies do the same thing. Maybe they actually were just making sure, but they liked something about Lovey more. Who knows. All I know is the others they interviewed weren't anyone I wanted. Time will tell I guess, and hopefully he makes better decisions than our last two coaches
If we don't get some better offensive linemen, wide receivers, cornerbacks, and a running back then that would be a miracle to pull off. Oh, and add in at least one or two Pro Bowl players from Watson's wasted salary.
They are not firing a 2nd coach after 1 year back to back on a rebuilding team. Texans probably surpassed expectations last year to be honest but the coach seemed too lost to continue. That won't be the case with lovie and unless they go 3 wins or less, his return is guaranteed.
Outside of an absolute disaster season, think it’ll be hard for them to fire another minority coach after one season. I also won’t be surprised if Caserio dinks and dunks through FA for the 2nd year in a row. Like you said, Lovie was not their guy so don’t think they’ll be looking to invest heavily until the guy they want (likely McCown) is on board. These guys f*cked around and are kicking the can down the road again.
I feel like a father who just walked in on his son having sex with an apple pie. Disappointed and confused at the same time.
I love it…wasn’t exactly the choice I wanted (McDaniels) But Lovie is definitely going to take this team to another level…far from the promise land but still to greater heights.
Because SAS can see through all of the Texans PR bullshit. And he was absolutely correct yesterday when he pointed out how insulting it was to black coaches who did the right thing and worked their way through the system only to get pushed aside for a white guy with NO experience save for being a volunteer HS coach. I remain firmly convinced that the Three Stooges were deadset on naming McClown as the HC but the league office stepped in at the last minute because by doing so, they would have conclusively proved Brian Flores' accusations and cost the league millions of dollars not to mention open it up to a possible federal investigation. That's the real fear here because unlike baseball, the NFL is not exempt from anti-trust regulations. Now, If you were paying attention, all reports were that McClown was their choice until over the weekend when on Saturday, Roger Goodell put out the obligatory "the NFL is committed to diversity and fairness blah blah blah" speech. Then "suddenly" on Sunday morning you start hearing that the Texans were "in discussions" with Lovie to be their head coach. And, unless Lovie can get this pathetic excuse for a football team into the playoffs in the next two years, he'll be given the David Culley treatment and they'll be right back at square one. Then they can go after McClown once more only this time, he'll have some credentials. Oh well, the obligatory press conference is at 11 AM today. I wonder if Nick will bring the coffee this time in order to get us all "excited" for Lovie.
Nope. Culley's hiring had absolutely NOTHING to do with keeping Watson. Cal, Jack and Nick knew (and have known for some time) that there zero chance of Watson wanting to stay - especially after the Tony Buzbee lawsuit/money grab. There'd been no communication between Watson and the Texans for months so for them to come up with the idea that "he'll change his mind and stay if we hire a black coach" is ludicrous. Culley was hired to be a minority sock puppet to stand on the sidelines and play the role of head coach while the team sucked for the next two years or so. He had NO say in anything: staffing, offense, defense, strategy because he wasn't qualified to begin with. Now ask yourself one question: "What could be the purpose of hiring a 60-something career positions coach who had NEVER even been interviewed for a head coaching position before?" To me the answer to that question is obvious - although I'm certain that Cal, Jack and Nick want me to drink the battlered koolaid and cheerfully pretend that all is well.
They dinked and dunked through free agency because Caserio became the GM of an awful roster with a QB on a big new contract who wouldn't play and a screwed cap and a depleted draft pool. The criticism of their approach to free agency, particularly by the media, is weird. Man gets thrown into a lion's den and the only weapon around is a stick, and you guys want to criticize him using a stick for self defense instead of a gun. You play the hand you're dealt.
