To be a good GM, you really have to be like Morey a little bit... in the sense that you don't care how the other side receives your offer. If you aren't that way, you'll never achieve the optimal outcome for your team. People who are "people pleasers" often do so because they fear rejection... They will preemptively think about the other side's response before the offer is even made... and try to come their way in the spirit of getting a deal done... Morey doesn't think this way... which can reduce the likelihood of getting a deal done, but also improve the quality of the deal if it does get done.

If you are hiring someone for a procurement role at a company, this is the same mindset that you want. You want someone who will negotiate fiercely and without too much concern for how they will be perceived. You don't want a people pleaser in that specific role. Obviously this can be taken too far if you "go Soviet" in the negotiation and take the approach of "what is mine is mine and what is yours is negotiable"... or instead of pursuing a win-win solution, their goal is a "I win-you lose" outcome.

how do you know they will not be high picks? in 4 years, all three players won't be superstars, heck Durant will be 38 and highly likely not even a star anymore, just a good player. The players are going to decline, you are acting as if they will be as good as they are now. They won't be anywhere near. Why do you think Stone spaced the picks out as far as he could........to time it for when the Nets are old. I bet you only 1 of their current three superstars will be left on the Nets team in 4 years. Brooklyn has no flexibility to add anyone as long as the superstars are taking maximum payment up until they are 38. also Durant and Harden are getting old and getting more injuries by the year

Both of you could be right. The Net's future and the value of those picks are very fluid.

It'll depend on what happens with Harden and Irving after this season. Both could leave via free agency or via trades. Nets could have cap flexibility or entirely new stars/players to surround KD or they might have the same big 3.

As for 2025 to 27, it's hard/impossible to predict how good the Nets will be with an aging KD or to even know what their roster will look like.

What we do know is - The Rockets best chance for a high lottery pick is likely one of those years (or a massive injury year).

Those picks could be in the top 5 or late first rounders or something in between. I'd likely bet on something in between since that's the more likely outcome without knowing the variables.

Also hopefully we would have drafted some solid pieces ourselves before that even happens. We are due for 2 more high lotto picks in the next two years. After than they go to OKC.

Whatever the Brooklyn picks turn out to be should be cherry on top that can be used either as trade assets or to replenish what is lost to OKC

And even with that, you have Kyrie still missing a major portion of their playoff games by not being able to play at home.... again, this team lacks proper leadership and a voice that will help carry them through the playoffs.

Everyone will kinda do their own thing (as they have been) until they flame out once again.

Gotta love it. KD won't be back for another few weeks, AND, James was playing hurt before he sat down. All those long HARD miles are starting to catch up with him. I could easily see a situation unfold where one or both of these guys go down. They are digging a BIG hole., and the deeper they go, the better for us.

I have no problem rooting for the Nets demise. In fact, shorting BKN has been a helluva sideline as we rebuild.

They also do not have picks to trade because they are already all going to the Rockets. That right there cuts down on what they do. Lebron and Tom Brady have warped perceptions a bit on what is possible at later ages in professional sports. Durant is amazing but his body may not be up for what the standards are for him. Harden may be thinking that exact thing right now. Why not attach himself to someone in their 20's instead of someone that keeps getting injured and heading into their mid-30's.

Looks like states are beginning to relax COVID restrictions. There's a good chance they may let Kyrie play in NY before too long.

Did you not read what I wrote? I guess a few people are having that issue lol. Read it again, Kyrie and Harden have not signed extensions, the team has a lot of flexibility. The extensions are 4 years, only Durant signed it last year, try adding again lol they are not all going to be 38. Kyrie is 29 and has not signed. They will not be high picks because this group is not going to stay together. People do not realize that the team being unsuccessful this early is not a good thing, because they have not signed extensions. A Harden to Philly trades returns much younger guys to the Nets. Even if Kyrie and Harden sign extensions, they arent going to win so they will demand trades before they are too old, they will get younger pieces back. You only hold onto players if you win multiple championships with them, these guys want to switch teams constantly, no way all 3 guys stay in brooklyn even if they sign extensions. Also, Kyrie's extension was taken off of the table after he refused to get vaccinated, so he will likely be traded. If Harden has no ring, he will push to get traded whether it is this year or next, and they will get younger guys back, not that hard to see that this trade was botched and the likelihood of high picks would require A LOT of things to occur in succession.

You can not possibly be that delusional to think that Stone spaced out the picks thinking this, lol its called the Ted Stepien Rule, you can not trade consecutive first rounders by league rule, lol just stop with this non sense, they got shafted face it.

Yes, we read your post. We also recognize it is just an artificial projection of arrogance and certainty for something 3-5 years out. There are plenty of examples of teams with deep pockets and no incentive to lose still being consistently in the lottery. But, your omniscience means that cannot be the case for Brooklyn, I suppose. Got any stock picks for us while you are at it?

As lol for the Stepien rule lol, that is why lol we have pick swaps lol every other year lol. But, please lol tell lol us lol more lol. Ideally WITH MORE CAPS

If Harden and Irving do not sign extensions the Nets get nothing, unless they can pull off sign-and-trades. Then they only have a broke down Durant and the value of the Harden trade goes up. Harden re-signing is the worst think that can happen for the Rockets as either he will help the Nets be good or he will be traded for young stars. I suspect he will end up in Philly after this year. Let’s hope it is via FA.

I can barely describe how much I’d love to see a Sixers-Nets series…the fckery will be at an all-time high

Kyrie not playing home games, and Simmons scared to death to play on the road

Harden has got to be loving the Portland trade today. Portland gives him a realistic leverage option, but also a great place to be a GM with an open roster and a couple of good picks.

I would rather the Nets miss the playoffs altogether or lose in the play-in tourny.
