From what I've heard, this is Tates locker room .... they aren't trading Tate unless they are totally blown away with the offer. As for his value, I think it's much more than a random first round pick - we're talking about a guy who defends 1-5 at a high level and can run the offense as a primary ball handler & don't forget that he has a club option for next year worth only $1,782,621 and comes with bird rights.
The bird rights is a difference maker. Tate plays hard every night and is a very high level glue guy that has value to our team.
Random, Random, Random Never going to happen but wish it would. I think value is far. Bouknight, Kia Jones, Mason Plumlee, PJ Washington …for… Green, Porter, Martin & Thies It’s clear that Green & Porter have talent but is it worth waiting on. Sengun & Christopher seem to stand out. We stay young but take a different direction. Green ?? Bouknight (Green has gotten more playing time) Porter > Jones (Jones is raw and young. Different positions hard to compare) Martin < Washington (Martin is a solid prospect on a great contract but Washington reminds me of A.C. Green (Showtime Lakers’ power forward) Thies = Plumlee (Plumlee has a shorter contract)
Levert was essentially acquired for an expiring, a lotto protected first and a good second round pick. Shouldn't Gordon net more than Levert? Better player for a contender imo. Hope we get a good first round pick for Gordon.
Could we get Horford, Schroeder and picks for Gordon and Wood? Horford would be a nice vet to start with the young guys. I would imagine Gordon and Wood give them a lot of firepower and they're not losing much. Clears a ton of cap space, $12m of Horford's salary is not guaranteed next season while Schroeder I guess would be waived is a $5m expiring.
Just an interesting framework for a deal I’ve been tossing around my head. If the lakers are done with the Westbrook experience; they could combine him, nunn, and tht and take back around 78 million in salary. The only team I think would take Westbrook would be us for wall and draft compensation. The point is the reader would be to add rotation players that fit the lakers better on negative contracts. The deal I’ve been contemplating is Hou out: Wall Hou in: Westbrook and pick LAL out: THT, Nunn, Westbrook, picks LAL In: Wall McCollum (or combination of salary dump players from other teams like clarkson, Fournier, Josh Richardson, Ross, Kyle Anderson, girlfriend, bagley, ) Third team is involved to get rid of negative contracts but potentially useful players for LA.
I like Tate for this team longterm. He’s Draymond light imo. You need guys like this to be successful.
I agree. Additionally, I could see Tate being a guy that re-signs at, or slightly under, market value given the Rockets gave him his shot and have shown confidence and loyalty to him. He'd be a steal at $10M per for another 4 seasons as a reserve 3/4 and as a locker room guy.
This framework is out there. Problem is THT. Lakers need to pay Rockets and another team to take THT for this swap, and accept egg on their face.
Y’all haven’t heard this one anywhere. Did some thinking and talked with a buddy on this and he was shocked. I think the Lakers should not look to trade Russ, they should look to trade the oft-injured AD and they should try to bring back a hometown legend… James Harden. I don’t know how the salaries match for this but I’d seriously call the Nets and try to work something out. Lebron James needs another playmaker. With playoffs, he’s effectively in his 25th NBA season coming up. His knee problems will be an incurring thing. It gives both teams a jolt. Just thinking outside the box.
Tate should be worth a FRP. So should have PJ Tucker last season. Yet, Rockets were unable to find any takers or they were just late to pull trigger on trade. I have zero faith Stone will trade any of our players for their best value. But he's been negotiating deals since he was 21 and he did not learn anything from Morey or learn anything new his first year as GM. His own words.
As a centerpiece? No. But as a guy who plays 20 minutes of hard defense, swings the ball and get you a dozen or so points a night? I think he fits. Again, I think he also has value as a guy who fought his way into the league and has been with the core since they arrived.
I also believe that over time he will develop a 3 point shot kind of like what Draymond and Tucker did. It will make him that much more valuable.
I like Tate too but if Rockets can score a mid first for him I'd make that trade. Only because the team as currently made up cannot compete for anything. Too many 1 dimensional players, so limited connectors like Tate will not help us. Tate, like EGo and Tucker before him, should be playing on a contender.
You think Tate is one dimensional? I wouldn’t go that far. I also say even if we agree that he is, defense is something we sorely need from him. I also love his leadership. He’s a lunch pail guy and you need that. How many first round picks do you want? We have plenty. Can’t keep trading guys away, adding picks and not build anything. Tate is perfect for this team.
