He’s wrong about no control for differences between groups. They did control for differences between groups. It’s not perfect and it’s one of the limitation listed. The others limitations are also listed.

Thanks for making my point for me.

The number of public schools that recorded disruptions, such as temporary closures and pivots back to remote learning, fell to 4,473 last week – a 38% drop from the previous week, when more than 7,000 schools recorded a disruption.

Do you not understand what the word temporary or disruption means and like I said nobody is talking about closing schools on a widespread basis at this time.

Thx, I saw that yesterday and read it already. A few statements on these points in the article:

1- criticize CDC for not running a single randomized control trial (RCT) on masking
2- didn't adjust for groups differences (vaccination status in particular)
3- didn't point out that cloth mask was not significant

No RCT on masking is a common complaint. Months ago, when this complaint came up, I said you can't run a randomized control trial on masking during a pandemic. It's societally very hard and ethnically wrong. Maybe someone can figure out a very clever way to do this and ethnically - doubtful. Lots of studies came close. Any serious scientists that make this statement is being dishonest IMO - they should know that's not doable. They should work with the dataset that is possible, not discard them as useless because they want a higher standard that is not possible.

The statement that there was no adjustment for vaccination status is wrong.

Effectiveness of Face Mask or Respirator Use in Indoor Public Settings for Prevention of SARS-CoV-2 Infection — California, February–December 2021 | MMWR (cdc.gov)

"Adjusted models accounted for self-reported COVID-19 vaccination status (fully vaccinated with ≥2 doses of BNT162b2 [Pfizer-BioNTech] or mRNA-1273 [Moderna] or 1 dose of Ad.26.COV2.S [Janssen (Johnson & Johnson)] vaccine >14 days before testing versus zero doses), household income, race/ethnicity, age, sex, state region, and county population density."

The statement that "they forgot to say cloth mask was NOT SIGNIFICANT" is wrong. It's stated not only in the body of the CDC MMWR article but right there on the photo that cloth mask is "not statistically significant".

Most of the other criticism are listed as limitations of the study.

Right. But I think it's now almost a norm for Asian Americans. High Asian pop areas in HOU = masking. Elsewhere in HOU, not much.
