FYI I deleted my original post because the tweet didn't speak directly to the omicron situation.

But anyways, my take on the infographic is that N95 level masks of course give the best protection, but other combinations of masking still allow 30 minutes to 1 hour of protection.

The tweet mentions at the bottom that the omicron variant to spread more easily. But if you and the infected person are wearing some kind of mask, even if they are not N95, there would still be some form of protection.

It may be just 20 or 30 minutes, but that may be just enough time to prevent getting infected while, say, visiting a store where one of the shoppers has the virus.

Smoking bans have largely held in tact in places like bars because of the health effects to the staff who clock into that environment daily.

Children might not die (as much), but they're still carriers and contribute to the viral load in the air for older more risk prone people.

So it becomes more of a choice between....do you want remote schooling because of a hazardous work environment for the adults staffing schools or are you okay with masking children in class with enforcement mostly at the discretion of the adult looking over them?

It seems like remote schooling may be more detrimental socially even though they're breathing uhh..cage-free.

Speaking of failing children, look no farther than the Trump family.

"Oh, I love Texas. And today, by the way, I got to do the most Texas thing ever," Donald Trump Jr. said during his speech at the rally. "Since we came in late last night, I was able to bring my little son Donny to my buddy Dion's manufacturing facility at F-1 Firearms. And Donny, little kid from New York City, now Florida, thank God, got to make his own AR-15."

That magically symmetric graph doesn't make any sense to me.. but anyway. My take is it all helps. The virus is airborne and any covering has some impact. It might be close to useless with certain type of masks, but there is some relative scale there which no one has quite quantify.

CDC tried again in this week MMWR with a test-negative case control study (try to simulate a control group). Pre-Omicron and as usual, study has limitations. This one does say that cloth mask is not statistically significant.

You can just feel it, the rebellions are taken place across the nation over this stupid mask mandate.

I recommend reading the whole thread. This CDC study is an embarrassment.

I’m telling you man, this chic is acting like a jilted lover. She’s desperately wanting to be a part of the Orange man’s circle and got rejected.

    So creepy and unhealthy.

It is not about the children getting sick or having long term issues it is about the children SPREADING it to those who would suffer because of it.

Wear a mask, teach them they are doing this for the good of grandma and grandpa.

Stop being such SELFISH ****ING ASSHOLES !

    Pot meet kettle.

Most of the stuff you post can be replied to the same way.

I don't know, 4,473 schools in the US currently?

    https://www.usnews.com/news/educati...ol-closures-drop-for-the-first-time-this-year

School Closures Drop for the First Time This Year
The slowdown in school disruptions marks the first week in which the number of temporary closures and pivots to virtual learning decreased since schools reopened after winter break.

The number of public schools that recorded disruptions, such as temporary closures and pivots back to remote learning, fell to 4,473 last week – a 38% drop from the previous week, when more than 7,000 schools recorded a disruption.

The slowdown in school disruptions marks the first week in which the number of temporary closures and pivots to virtual learning decreased since schools reopened after winter break at the beginning of January.

While the comparison is somewhat uneven due to the fact that schools were not in session on Monday to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the analysis by the school tracking site Burbio concludes that “the trend seems clear that disruptions are slowing down.”

At its peak, roughly 10% of schools experienced disruptions last week, which were the result of infections and exposures – and the ensuing isolations and quarantines – leaving schools short-staffed and driving up student absentee rates.
