If the number 1 from Gordon is in the pick 25-30 range this year and the #1 pick from Miami is in the 25-30, I don't see that working for the Top 15 with a lesser asset. I agree that Stone wants to get into the Top 15 this year. I would not settle for an asset that can't be combined with the Nets pick and a lesser asset to get into the Top 15. If I had a Top 15 pick, I would not want to trade down much and I would want future assets with it. I'm really hoping the Nets falter into their pick being in the upper tens or even better. My sole goal with trading Gordon would be to acquire something to use to trade up in this draft. If teams aren't willing to give the Rockets something they think can do that, they should hold onto Gordon.

I don't believe in a FRP has a nominal value based on it solely being a FRP. A late FRP in a draft that will have what is usually 2nd round talent at that spot should not be valued like a normal late FRP. I could be wrong about the draft talent. Though, if my view of value of the prospects that will be left late in the 1st round is correct, a 25-30 FRP is essentially a table scrap, and the Rockets will have to use other assets to move up, if they can.

If your view or more importantly Stone's view is that a late FRP can be used to trade up, I'm fine with trading for a late 2022 pick. If the Rockets have to use other assets to move up and get stuck with a player taken with a late 2022 FRP that can't make the team (I think Stone would have to beg someone to stay in Europe), I'd rather have Gordon.

We don’t have the Miami pick, we have the option to SWAP Miami’s first with Brooklyns first

Currently, we would not execute that swap as Brooklyn has the worse record. Right now the BKN pick is slotted to be #22

So would I, I just don't think they will offer it. They are trying to get a younger and better player than Gordon right now and that Lakers pick would hypothetically go there....

I took it to assume Rockets have a separate deal for the Heat Pick. I'm hopeful that the Brooklyn pick slips just a bit more with Durant out and Harden's hand acting up.

The problem is that they very possibly will not know if a late #1 combined with the Heat/Nets 22 #1 will get them into the top 15 at this point. It is also possibly if someone they really like slips in the draft, that they would add another asset to move up and take them and that the late #1 in 22 from the Gordon deal would be part of that package. I suspect that ideally Stone wants a #1 from a team further down the line as it has higher liquidity, but those picks are getting harder to acquire in trade because other teams feel the same way.

The other part of moving Gordon is that he is off the books next year if you deal him to Cleveland and take back Rubio. Another option is to trade Gordon to another team and take BACK a contract that isn't so great, with the idea that you get even better draft compensation. The problem would be that it could possibly limit cap space AFTER next year, which the Rockets seem to want open.

I agree with this in general terms but there are a lot of variables. First, while I agree that this draft right now is about 8-9 deep, that can still change. There are a number of international players that haven't been scouted as well and a lot of underclassmen that may come out that teams may covet at the end of round one. Someone like Watson may leave UCLA and a team may take a chance.

To me it is all about maximizing value for Gordon.

And that is the reality here. No one is going to trade/mortgage their team's future (e.g. a pick beyond 2025) for the rights to acquire Eric Gordon pretty much as a gun-for-hire over the next 2 years. Would I turn down a 2027 unprotected 1st for Gordon? Hell no but I would sure as hell be surprised if that were to happen (Hello, David Griffin? lol).

That is why I said what I said yesterday--Cleveland is smartly lowballing Stone with (reportedly) 2 2nds and Rubio because there are no competing offers right now. Things can change and a team thirsty for the playoffs like Minnesota could send us their 1st and Beverley's expiring back for Gordon but that is still a low end 1st...which I would gladly take. Like you said @Nook , things can change/happen during the draft where a player's stock might take a nosedive and we scoop him up with the, say, 25th pick that was acquired from Cleveland/Minnesota/etc.

Players picked in the 25-30 range in the past between 2018 and 2020:

    2018: Landry Shamet (26), Robert Williams (27)
    2019: Jordan Poole (28), KPJ (30)
    2020: Immanuel Quickley (25), Desmond Bane (30)

It is highly unlikely the Rockets get lucky with a pick in this range as the talent is likely less than those years, and even if they get lucky, they have to make a decision on who makes the roster and are just as likely in keeping the wrong guy as they are in keeping the right guy.

I wouldn't ask for unprotected. I'd ask for lottery of Top 15 protection for Gordon. Even top 20 protection FRP in 2023 is likely better than a pick in the 20s this year. If a team is unwilling to deal a future FRP that is Top 15 protected or even Top 20 protected instead of a 2022 pick, what does that say about the 2022 draft from teams perspectives?

I'm all for maximizing value for Gordon provided a team offers something Rockets can use. If you and Nook are okay being lowballed, fine. I accept that you feel getting the best offer for Gordon is a must even if it likely doesn't have more than nominal value to the Rockets rebuild.

Determining Eric Gordon’s trade value as Rockets approach deadline
    https://clutchpoints.com/determining-eric-gordons-trade-value-as-rockets-approach-deadline/

We are less than a week away from the 2022 NBA trade deadline and no significant moves have been made yet. This isn’t because every team is perfectly content with their situation, nor is it because of a shortage of sellers. More likely, it has to do with a league-wide freeze because of teams monitoring the Ben Simmons situation in Philadelphia and a general hesitancy about moving first-round picks.

If Fox goes to the Pelicans for a load of picks, then there is a real chance that those picks go to Philadelphia for Simmons..... regardless, I don't buy that is what is holding up the market. Part of it is that there isn't a glut of sellers at this point. As far as moving first round picks, a lot of that is because teams don't really have that many to move. A handful of teams have accumulated a lot of draft picks.

Again, I'm not quite understanding how trading Gordon for, say, Rubio's expiring contract and a 2022 1st can be considered as a low ball offer. If you think trading Gordon for a negative player (because that's what it'll amount to given that salaries have to work out) just to get a Top 15 protected pick in 2023 or 2024 is better then more power to you. The fact of the matter is no one knows with great certainty how an NBA draft will turn out. If you have data/information that points to how bad this draft is when compared to the prospects that COULD come out for 2023 or 2024 by all means send them my way. I'll freely admit my own ignorance on who could be available in the upcoming drafts so you might be able to teach me a thing or three.

seems like we have a real advantage as far as trade this year given how many teams (especially in the East) have a playoff shot, and the 2 games that separate 6 spots in the East. I’m hoping the competition for available players as well as teams trying to get under the cap will create opportunities for smart moves. It appears to be a seller's market. I’m hopeful, but not optimistic, Stone can make some moves that help our rebuild. The environment seems to be ripe for deals. Hell, every time LA loses I keep thinking a Wall for Russ deal is not as crazy as it sounds.

    That is certainly the hope.

Gordon/Wood and Tate are about all we have left to trade and the hope is we get assets out of it to add another long term starter to the line up.

The expectation is that Green will be a long term starter..... and the hope is Sengun can be one too..... then this year we should have a top 7-8 pick, and the expectation is that we get a starter out of that pick and possibly have the assets to move and add another long term starter from the draft or trade.

Not all of these moves will pan out, but the hope is enough do at least.

Let’s improve the Nets pick to TheGoodGuys disadvantage: straight up, EGo for Joe Harris.

The value that Harris would have healthy in the summer would so top a FRP, from Cleavesburg, for example.

Houston is telling teams they have a late first round pick on the table.

Cleveland to me is the number one team that makes sense.
