Wood you guys have traded C Wood for Jordan Pool straight up? and how do you think Jordan Pool would have fared in Silas' System?
It's unfortunate because I'll tell you right now, some winning team is going to take Wood and slowly turn him into a winning player. They will have a great player on their hands. We don't and can't have that player. It's not fair to blame a non franchise player for not knowing how to win when he's almost never played on any winning team. A little taste of winning NBA basketball would take him a long way towards prioritizing things better. You also can't blame someone who's sick of losing. No amount of money can make up for that feeling if there's a competitor in him. Hope he lands in a nice role and develops more winning habits. But since I heard he's whining about being on this team, I'm done with him. Send his a$$ out for the best offer a week before the deadline.
I don’t think you can turn wood into a top 12 pick in one trade. You will probably get one 18-24 pick just like gordan or a future pick that could be better through luck. The idea is to gather as many picks as you can to either use in trades or combine and move up in the draft. If you can’t get a FRP for Wood then keep him and see if he can be our sf of the future, since he does guard the perimeter very well and can shoot from outside
the question really is will there be more value for him this summer? there will be a LOT of roster shakeups this summer and a lot of newer names could be available. wood will still have 1 year left on a super cheap contract that most contenders could easily add.
How the league views a player is slightly telling. If Wood out in the market is only worth one late FRP, on such a cheap contract and still 1.5 years left, what does that say about Rockets still seeing him as a cornerstone vs how the league sees him. I hope and Stone/Silas are more self aware and be honest with themselves on how valuable Rocket's current number one option really is. Don't give him away for the sake of giving him away, but if keeping (or even extending him), the playing time should be re-allocated such the team isn't built to fit around him vs him fitting the team. A late FRP in last year draft for Forwards and Centers are; the likes of Isiah Jackson, Garuba, Day'ron Sharpe, and Santi Aldama. Those guys may bloom but by no means are top prospects.
I guess that depends on what his value is as of right now. If it's an unprotected 1st and an expiring contract then maybe you would get something more for him during the offseason when interested teams know where their actual picks land (assuming they're trading a 2022 pick) and could probably throw in a 2nd or two in the trade if the 1st is a low selection. If I was a GM and thought Wood can help my team in the long run, I'd make the trade now so that I can get an extra 20-25 games to see how he fits with my team and thereby give me more time to determine if he's worth the pricey extension he's been expecting/wanting.
wood should be the centerpiece of this franchise. surround wood with good young players and the right coach and he'll take you to new heights in the play-in
Would you all consider this trade? Spoiler: Trade My reasoning. Indiana has indicated they want to rebuild, they get two young pieces, plus an FRP from Cleveland to start that process. I'm not sure if Wiseman is in Warriors future plans as of now, but they may just want to cut their losses. For the Cavs, they need additional guard help and EG is a good fit for them. The Warriors, they are going to need all the firepower they can get to match against the Suns in the playoffs. I'm a Domantas Sabonis fan and would like him on the Rockets, think we get great value back in this trade. Not the three point shooter C Wood is but a much better defender, better passer, etc.
Rockets already have their version of Sabonis. Like Sengun, Sabonis is not a great rim protector or switch defender. If I'm trading Wood, then I rather get back Myles Turner. Turner is an ELITE rim protector.
I'd take Kuminga and Wiseman for Wood and that's about the lowest I would take. It's not happening though. The upside of Kuminga is far too high to obtain for less than a proven star at this point. ] I like Wood and I hope he stays unless someone pays that kind of a king's ransom.
I wanted Wood gone after he refused to come out in the second half. He has improved since then. I don't think his trade value is high at all. It's going to be hard to acquire a two way player for him. I would retain him for now. He shouldn't be offered an extension.
You'd bet your behind that there will be a Xtian Wood Thread in the Dish. Don't you worry about that, the accountants on here will do work.
We need an elite rim protector and a big man willing to set screen, guard the big man. It could b b/c of a bad coach and a losing environment, that Wood half asses things, but factor in he legit quit on the team and his pouty behavior on the court, i wouldn't sign him to a big hefty contract.
Myles Turner would actually fit well with CWood with Sengun as the back up, not really sure if there is any trade Indiana would do with us for Turner though. My other issue is that we are still are far away from being a playoff contender.
I thought Myles Turner was for sale? And he's only 25, that's younger than Tate. Give me any player who is elite on one side of the ball and a threat on the other and I'm good. Rockets need more lengthy 2 way players. This defense is not fixing itself.
I'm usually one of the Debbie downers here when it comes to trade speculation but even I thought we could at least get 2 FRPs or something like Wiseman and a 1st for him. I guess the fact that Sabonis, Turner and Grant are available kind of turned this into a buyers market and hurt everyone's value. Really still hope that all this talk is just posturing from the other teams though.
The fact that Wood seems to be coexisting pretty well on the court with Sengun might be enough to put an end to any trade talks. I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t think it could work, but they haven’t looked bad together. I’m not sure you want to give up on that yet.
