Seriously though the kid has like one good game per month let the cultists have their moment of bliss, they've earned it. Green had a legitimately good game.
This is pretty irrelevant to my point. My point was that Giannis came into the league averaging 6 pts on poor efficiency at 19 and today is one of the most dominant scorers in league history. The point is that significant improvement can be done. If your argument is that because Giannis was a lower pick and therefore didn't get the same opportunities as Green did in terms of playing time and therefore his low scoring totals should be taken with a grain of salt, that would then be reflected in scoring efficiency. The more you increase volume the less your efficiency is going to be given that it's the same player with the same talent and skills. So if Gainnis was given the same time and attempts as Green he might approach Green's scoring average but it would significantly drop his efficiency.
I think you can't get it through your thick skull that nobody cares about you being wrong or right. You are a nobody on the internet, obviously you will have good and shet takes. But you constantly act like your opinion is infallible and refuse to listen to possibilities of players developing. Nobody here suggests that Green will be a superstar, he could be a lot of things, it's probably way too early to say for sure. Your opinion on Green is worth as much as your opinion on Marcus Morris or Jalen Suggs. It's worth as much as anyone's takes on this forum. A GM's career is not based on 1 missed pick. The FO that picked Jabari Parker also picked Giannis, the FO that picked Booker also picked Dragan Bender, It took Okafor/Noel to get Embiid etc. etc. Green wasn't even a out of the blue pick, Cade was always going to be a first pick, it was just a coin flip between Green and Mobley on most draft predictions, and one of them didn't want to work out with us. Stop being so dramatic and an annoyance. I think you don't want to ever admit Green has done anything positively because you have to defend your shetty opinion for internet points.
Your lack of self-awareness is cute. Even if you are trolling it's still a lack of self awareness in terms of you doing this on a message board as a middle aged man.
I know you struggle with reading comprehension, but I wasn’t "trolling" I was supporting our cultist friends. Their blind faith has been unshakeable through terrible game after terrible game. They deserve to be rewarded by enjoying the good game they were finally given. Perhaps cut down on the crayon intake old man. I fear they might not be as "non toxic" as the label suggests
Folks that are still crying about not picking Mobley seem to forget one simple fact; HE DID NOT WANT TO BE HERE. He refused to work out with us, which I imagine made picking Green a much easier decision.
I want to believe this bolded part but I don't know if I do. The unrealistic Jalen defenders bristle at any perceived slight of his game. Defense, rebounding, taking bad shots, getting stuffed repeatedly, low IQ of what he should be doing on court. These will probably improve somewhat, but right now they are usually BAD. But I think many people here refuse to believe that "Jalen has been disappointing so far." His poor performance is not an opinion, it's backed up by stats. Some or many on here just refuse to see this. Some say he'll never be a superstar and I would look at what he's done and is doing. He hasn't shown me anything that says he'll be a superstar. What has he shown that makes people think he will be a superstar? Again, there are other 19 year old rooks in the league who are playing great, good, and above average for a rookie. He looks about average to me right now. Yes, our team sucks. Don't use that as an excuse for Green's playing this year. Could he learn and improve a lot over the summer? Yes. Could he improve a little over the summer? Yes. There's nothing that guarantees he'll be leaps and bounds better next year. And even if he is a lot better next year, that's not what most people are talking about in the bolded statement.
His dribbling is getting better - we are all witnessing that - KPJ looks a lot more polished kudos to that kid - . I think we should all be concerned how Wood and Sengun can play better together. Their skills should compliment each other on the court I believe last night was one of the few times they excelled together.
Personally, I am not looking to see what he does THIS season. This season is a wash. Don't care about it and don't care about how people perform during it. What I do care about is what Green can offer a couple of seasons down the road and there has been a lot of aspects that shimmered that Rockets fans can be optimistic about. Heck, building up his strength alone can mitigate quite a few of his current flaws.
This season is actually very important, statistically, to establish himself in his rookie class. #1 and #2 picks who are not top 3 in ROY vote are major disappointments historically. If he finishes outside top 3-5 in ROY voting, history is very strongly against him. Good news is there is still time this season. We are still pre-ASB…
I care about what he does this season because I think it gives a good hint at his ceiling. But I get that he could be a lot better going forward. I hope he will be. There's also some possibility that him playing better this season will increase his confidence and thus lead to better play. And it would likely make this board a happier place, too. He has shown flashes but not consistently enough for me to get excited. I'm happy when he has a good game but I recognize those are about every fourth game. Let's look for a big jump next year. Yes, strength could help a lot. Jalen;s FT drawing and % are big strengths now. That's super encouraging.
Loving his development. He is adding new things to his game as the season goes, getting more comfortable making plays for others at the moment as well as going after more rebounds. If his shooting is off, he can impact the game in other ways with rebounds and assists and that is something he is showing a little bit now
Yeah, I think baby steps is the best way to look at it. Green has about 5 or 6 games all season where he's been arguably a positive player for the team. The rest, he's been a major negative. So the lofty BS where he comes in as the next HOFer scoring a million points per game on the way to ROY is completely out of the window. Instead, I'm going to expect nothing from him, and just be really happy when he has a good game like last night. He's nowhere near a finished product, every step in the right direction is a good thing as far as I'm concerned.
He realistically doesn't have that much time. The next season will be telling. He's getting a lot of Leeway right now being a rookie, but if he doesn't start fixing a lot of fundamental problems, the team will move on quickly. Keep in mind we are due to pick another 2 lotto picks in the next two season, Green will not be the new shiny new toy anymore, he needs to put his act together, or the team will move on to the 2 other prospects.
Mobley and Cade look more polished to me. Much more patient, in control and poised. I still feel Green has the higher ceiling of the 3 so time will tell if he gets there.
Not many rookies are consistent right from the start.............Only the some special ones are like Tim Duncan. Rookies usually hit a wall at some stage in their first season. Scottie Barnes for example started on fire from the field, but his January fell off a bit
It's obvious that Jalen has struggled with his shot through 36 games, not even half a season though. If he shot just 41% fg and 34% from 3, he'd be at 18pts per game on 12.5 shots a night which is highly efficient for any rook throughout the history of the league. When you look at your favorite top drafted rookies since 1994 many of them came in as the focal point, shooting 17 fgs a game. Durant comes to mind, 17.5 fgs to score his 20. Grant Hill, 15 shots for 19 pts. Green came in as the 3rd component in this team's rebuild so he's also trying to figure out where he fits in. Yeah, some will say, Breh, Hill as a rookie was excellent on defense and made FILA the hottest kicks, selling nearly as much as the jordan 11s! Hill was also a mature 22. Just look at the strides defensively Green has made over the past 3 weeks. He no longers play that Harden D where he helps and falls asleep. Well, he'll still do it once a game. Like yesterday, the one time he did ballwatch his defender glided past him. It looked so funny because he turned around to guard his match up and there was no one there. Luckily their pf #4 did not have the awareness of Sengun otherwise it would have been the assist of the night. TLDR version, with his work ethic, he's going to improve. He has the chip on his shoulder attitude.
The key is to figure out what can most likely be improved and what can't. A defender bumping him off course on his way to the rim or being bumped off trying to defend because he has not had the opportunity to turn his 19 year old body into an NBA ready body for example, easily improvable with a couple of off-seasons locked in the gym. Not knowing where to be on D when playing on a rather awful defensive team? Also, easily improvable with more experience and better coaching / teammates. Jumper might take some time though.
yes, agree there has been progress in several areas. It’s still too little compared to the lofty expectations, but progress is definitely better than no-progress.
