They can ban him from the NFL, and I think he deserves to be punished severely if he really offered Flores 100K a loss....... but the fact is, he was caught cheating trying to get the #1 pick to get Lawrence and try to win games. There are going to be fans that will respect the fact that he was at least trying to win games long term for his team as compared to falling asleep in the owners box like some owners.
I see a big difference between having a roster of bad players or overrated chuckers and telling a coach to try to throw a game.
Yea... the Texans' way is much more legit. Have a thin and young wide receiver core? Trade Cobb, your veteran slot receiver You can't run the ball. Who is your best running back? Ingram? Trade him Have near zero pass rush? Dump Mercilus. Can't tackle? Dump the reigning NFL tackle leader in Cunningham and eat a fat wad of dead money. Need to blow another game against a team with a similar record like the Jets? Suspend your best safety in Justin Reed because he had the audacity to disagree with a coach.... Culley should have gotten an extra 100k a week for having to stand in front of a podium with the Deshaun BS....
I would actually be more inclined to hire Flores now I was worried about the Bill Obrien comparisons. But this shows balls that BOB can only dream of having. Glad he is standing up for himself. That kind of attitude would make me more likely to follow the team again. Something I can root for. but still, pretty unlikely to happen now
The paying coaches to lose games thing is wild, especially considering that the coach then looks bad, his reputation is ruined for losing games...and then that same team will turn around and fire said coach when they feel the team is more talented. That is the most damning thing to me in this whole thing. I think there is a huge difference in building a team expecting them to lose and actually paying your coach to lose games.
It would be crazy if the Texans hired Flores after he called them out for inherent racism (Culley fiasco) in his lawsuit. I just can't see it happening. Frankly, a lot of the Texans' current woes would have have been helped greatly if the unqualified, hire-and-fire coach they had brought in for last season had been a white guy. Doesn't matter who. They could have fired that guy for incompetence, and people wouldn't have really made a big deal out of it, and then if they turned around and hired another white coach this off-season, well, Flores wouldn't be happy but they wouldn't get near the amount of flak as they are now for firing a black coach to turn around and hire a white (I'm not going to assume it is McCown as so many here are -- I personally think they don't hire McCown and are interviewing him extensively to either bring him in as a coordinator, assistant coach or to help get him on elsewhere). As usual, the Texans problems are mostly their own fault, with a little bad luck thrown in there. It would be funny if it wasn't so damn frustrating.
From a PR standpoint, Texans will be probably fine with Gannon or KOC. If it’s McCown however, they’ll rightfully face the firing squad.
This is going to get worse before it gets better, especially if more coaches come out and say it. It's going to be a pretty big scandal for them, not only the race thing of course but that whole thing of coaches being paid to tank seasons is really ugly. When players or coaches intentionally throw games...I mean historically that's always been a really bad look for a sports league. All we're missing now is a revelation that refs have been picking winners too...or a substance abuse story to break out. EDIT: 10x worse because the NFL has betting partners...
I've never seen a less qualified guy being seriously considered for a professional head coaching position. He literally has zero qualifications.
So do you think the Jack Easterby situation is a problem? Sorry if you've already stated this, I've been away from the Texans forum all year....
From what I understand, Janice McNair and Caserio want McCown. Easterby is not in the process. Cal McNair shot down McCown last year AND this year (Cal the voice of reason? Hmm...I don't know). Gannon is the pick, but the Flores stuff has delayed the announcement.
