There is no way you can hire a white guy that has never coached before. Not now. It was bad before but this would be one of the all time worst decisions the Texans could make. Maybe even if we do not fire Flores, he saved us from McCown.
It's interesting that the national media who speak to agents and coaches in the process say that the Texans are not viewed that way. Rappaport this morning pushed back on the idea that the Texans are seen as a bad job and even dismissed idea they were worst job in THIS cycle. It's also interesting to me how much dirt is reported about the meddling of Easterby and Caserio when at the same time it seems pretty obvious that the local media can't get info from them.
Flores is still third on my list. I have a feeling a Flores hiring would still have people saying, "They only hired him because of the lawsuit." Like he wasn't the initial coach they wanted to hire and changed their mind in reaction to it.
We could be like the Dolphins - owner might be having to sell the team Broncos - show up to interviews drunk and hing over Giants - Doing sham interviews Jaguars - and that dysfunctional franchise. Sorry to tell you but the Texans aren’t as bad as you want to try to make them to be when compared to what’s going on with other teams around the NFL
Yeah never really bought into the whole mainstream and local media Texan hate parade. Look at what’s going on now with Flores Dolphins Jags Broncos Giants All look horrible right now But people want to bash Cal and Easterby and the whole Texans organization please give me a break.
Dolphins - owner might be having to sell the team (Respect an owner that's willing to bend the rules to win) Broncos - show up to interviews drunk and hung over. (Sounds like a fun organization) Giants - Doing sham interviews (All teams do) Jaguars - and that dysfunctional franchise. (Yes, they stink)
You must not have heard Rappaport’s interview on Sean Salisbury’s show. IR has a good contact in the organization and knows things. Sean made him very uncomfortable with some of the questioning. He’s not going to be critical of the organization and lose that trust/contact. Everyone knows the org is a mess.
I did. This morning? He specifically refuted SS's question about the Texans being the worst job open in the cycle.
Yeah I don't believe Rappaport or the national media. The facts are obvious and I am not talking about rumors. The facts are that the Texans fired a GM after a year on the job a few years ago. The Texans also hired a head coach that had never been an OC/DC and fired him after only one year on the job. The Texans let their HC operate as GM and HC and make numerous stupid trades, to only fire him at the end of the season. The Texans have as an executive (Easterby) someone with no football experience. The Texans best player is a QB that sexually assaulted numerous women and doesn't want to play for them. The Texans have one of the least talented rosters in the league. former players bad mouth the organization. What exactly do the Texans have going for them other than their market? Nothing really... I suppose someone could look and say they used to keep coaches around awhile, but that isn't even really the case anymore. Is the job more appealing than the Lions? Yeah I guess so, but what is that really worth?
Texans could still have their “hold my beer” moment which would probably put them in even worse light than all those teams combined if it happens.
I think a lot this gets overblown. The fallout from betting on Obrien was messy and it wrecked the franchise. It's going to be ugly climbing out of that. They should get back to being a mediocre franchise soon enough.
No, the Texans are pretty damn bad. Are they the absolute worst? Not at this point, but they are in the pot of bad for sure. The Dolphins won more games than the Texans and they have talent. They also have an owner that is willing to break the rules to win. The Broncos biggest issue is that they will soon have a new owner, but there is existing talent on that team. The Giants are in the largest market, and in the past ownership has won. The Jags have a potential franchise QB at least.
Don't get me wrong. It is possible that Caserio hits on a coach and the two work well together and they draft well and win... I just think with ownership the odds are less than many franchises.
Quite delusional. We had a sham of a hiring process with our gm. We r holding on to an accused sexually predator at qb. Lack talent at literally every position A gm who is a control freak, a religious charlatan and an owner who allowed BoB to b promoted to GM and get away with the Hopkins trade. The culley hire was dumb as fk, but at least all the dirty laundry being exposed today isn't related to us yet. Hiring McCown is the dumbest move we can make right now. Any aspiring folk worth anything would avoid this place or risk end up being the next culley
Meh. They managed to be a perfectly respectable mediocre franchise for a long time. This board regularly freaked out about the ownership then too. Cal is a dolt obviously but the impact that has is really overstated as long as he has a competent GM, which I believe they have. I don't know if Caserio is a great GM in terms of drafts and stuff, but he's at least competent at running an organization in my opinion. Cal isn't running the day to day. Caserio should be able to get the Texans back to their 8-8 status without too much trouble. I even think Culley was fine as a head coach miss personally. Don't think he did any damage to the org long term. I don't think anything about the Texans screams "Model franchise!" by any means, but I don't think they are near the dumpster fire that people think they are. Cal McNair invested in Bill Obrien and that was a huge mistake. There are massive repercussions still being dealt with from that.
Cant believe you and other posters are just saying about Stephen Ross “oh that’s just an owner who wants to win” SMDH If it was Cal everybody would be screaming for him to go to jail or have to sell the team. Or worse. He offered to pay to tank games! He invested multi-million dollars in a sports gambling start up! He tried to setup a tampering meeting intentionally! Oh but he just wants to win right SMDH
And I don't know... Hue Jackson basically admitted the Browns paid him to tank. The Browns have been a laughing stock for more than a decade with a couple of blips sprinkled in. The Bengals are suddenly good but again, no better than the Texans in the Texans history. I respected Marvin Lewis a lot, but he did a lot with nothing. The franchise had a reputation for not paying players and taking chances on sucky human beings to make up for their unwillingness to spend money. The Lions...nevermind. The Jaguars...have been terrible for most of the Texans existence. Recent history saw them hire a big time college coach who flamed out with amazing flair, trashing coaches and players. The Bears have been a joke for awhile, going through coaches and QBs. The Jets...nevermind. The Dolphins have not only been irrelevant for 20 years, they've also got a shitty owner and going to get tied up in a scandal now. The Giants were really good for a long time but are now on another new head coach after firing the special teams coordinator after he flopped. To me the Texans are in a grab bag with the rest of those franchises (except the Giants.) Nothing inherently worse.
