Watch the games. He sticks to his defender a lot better than he did at the beginning of the year. He doesn't fall for the same jukes and moves and stuck with the likes of Klay Thompson and Steph Curry just fine. One particular play whee he was on Klay like a shadow. Klay made the shot anyway because his name is Klay Thompson. If you don't think Jalen is improved defensively, at least 1v1, then you probably have an agenda. It's that ****ing simple. My biggest concern with him isn't even him at all. It's the coaching staff. I have the same concern with Sengun.
Even if he improved a little he still SUCKS on defense. It's not debatable and the fact that you're trying to debate it means you're a fanboy with an agenda. He was absolutely torched by somebody at least two inches shorter than him a few games ago. That guy just lowered his shoulder and drove Green to the basket like two plays in a row. I watched that game and that's what I saw. Did you want it? Who was that guy?
i watched only a little but his defense surprised me... he could be a great defender if he keeps working on his craft and body! btw you cant trade jalen green for top 2 pick right now... nobody would have taken him off our hands...coaching staff dropped his value...something needs to be done about this... no top pick will do us any good if we dont know how to develop....
Still believe Green isn't as bad as he has been in the last couple of weeks. He does not have A LOT to work on in terms of getting back to being a serviceable NBA starter. He just needs to hit his open shots and gain his confidence back. Those two things are simple and we know that he can hit those shots. If he can't hit shots then it's a major issue. He has a lot to work on if he wants to be a star player, but him scoring 15 PPG on efficiency is not that hard for him. Right now he's scoring 9 PPG on terrible efficiency due to this shooting slump.
Candace Parker comparing Jalen Green to Russell Westbrook... Wtf... also mentioning they both can play defense... Wtf... Well it's a good thing she's tall and athletic... otherwise I dont know if she would get my order right at the drive through.
She is right, they both struggle shooting and are both athletic with a great first step. And they are both not great at basketball. DD
So a former mvp/future hall of famer is not great at basketball? That is an absurd statement, everyone in the Association is great at basketball.
When you don't have to guard Russ on the perimeter in the playoffs, yeah, he is not great at basketball today. DD
It's mainly to show what his average shooting is without the wild swings. Like if we look at Lavine in the way he's at 38.6% adjusted v 39.5% season. Durant is 38.2% adjusted v 37.2% season. Harden is effectively the same at 33.7%. In Lonzo Ball's rookie year he was at 29.4% adjusted v 30.5% for the season. Jalen is at 24.7% adjusted v 28.7% for the season. Granted, I've just made this up when I saw how streaky his shooting was. It seems to show his shooting really needs a lot of work. Lonzo's rehab of his broken shot and his starting age certainly give hope, but Jalen has a long way to go.
Oh I have an agenda? Can you please explain what you think my agenda is? I'd really really like to know. Please be detailed and concise.
Your key words are really important here. The comments I made early in the season about him being terrible defensively were because of off the ball decision making and awareness. That still is as dreadful as it was as day one unfortunately. His defensive awareness when he's not defending the ball handler is regrettably, atrocious.
Hopefully Jalen wins the dunk contest and gets some confidence. That or he'll blow it, realize he can't dunk either and hopefully start working on his jumper.
We have to realize that he is not a very experienced player - he didn't start playing until he was in highschool. He's one year out of highschool and that was a Covid shortened season with 20 games. Add to that the fact that he always got by on his athleticism rather than skill - his own words pre draft. Think about that - he's been playing the game 4 years and 20 games (prior to this season) while being the best athlete and not having to improve his skills to be competitive - Until Now. Compare that to many of his peers who've grown up with a basketball in their hands .... He really could have used a year or two in college to round out his game .... and play with people who were the same quality athlete. If he had gone the NCAA route, I wonder if he would have been advised to stay in school another year or more. I'm not ready to count him out but it's gonna take a while for him to put the pieces of this puzzle together. The Rockets didn't draft him for what he is now but the upside of what he can be eventually. They and we just didn't realize how much of a project he really is. The team is just lucky he's willing to put in the work to get better ..
Wait, was this really said before the draft? Jesus christ if so, the Rockets are even more inept than I originally thought. How in the world do you take someone with the second pick who admitted he hasn't bothered refining his game or working on fundamentals because he's beaten everyone with his athleticism..... something that's about to come to abrupt and rude halt when the NBA begins. My god. The more time passes the worse this decision gets.
Yes, it was in an interview after the G league but before the draft but with him & his mother. It's posted on here in one of the pre draft threads .... showed a younger Jalen playing basketball against a unisex group - he might have been 14 in the video.
