No, he isn't. It's pretty safe to say he won't be a star player unless he has a Jokic-like progression.
I agree that coaching is a huge issue and should be addressed. But Sengun is struggling for whatever reason, same as Green. Playing them more minutes will not solve that critical point.
Where is same heat for Jalen, who was worse at -19? And I agree that Wood's defense and turnovers are killing us in games that were winnable but his offense and rebound were also critical to keeping game close in first place. 24/13 and 55% from 3 at high volume is ridiculous for a big. But playing Wood AND Green together at end of close games is recipe for disaster, low IQ players imo.
It's not my point of view. Just because I can see his logic doesn't mean I agree with him. In fact, I strongly disagree with the way he's doing things. I don't think he's a good coach at all.
I'll also add that I think there is a strong possibility Christian Wood will be gone at the deadline. And if he is, Sengun is definitely getting a lot more minutes. And that may have been the plan all along.
lol you dont even know why he struggles but 100% sure it cant be solved by playing more...lololol cmon imagine harden playing 10 minutes a night? in 2.5 minutes spurts? lolololol that would be a real struggle... how many games before he is declared washed? and harden often struggles even despite being given all PT in the world and all the ball hogging rights and all the turnover rights of course sengun is not playing very good when the entire league played TRIPLE OR DOUBLE HIS PLAYING TIME since the start of the season to claim that PT doesnt matter is to denie one of the fundamental facts of life.. youd never ever learned to walk or even speak if your walking/speaking time was reduced by your mother artificially to 10 minutes a day when you needed more...
whether it was a plan or not it was poorly dealth with... you aint gonna get 30 picks more for wood by playing him all the time in the world but you already ruined a good player and a potential cornerstone (you gave 2 FRPs for) by taking away his playing time when he started wonderfully....you can also play him alongside wood like you played theseis just a dumb franchise doing dumb things sacramentoesque!
just remmeber this franchise played danuel house over alpi when he was here and made danuel house into a playmaker... thats some dumb weird ****
the mere fact that green isnt so terrible as he was to start the season when he didnt even look like nba material( and it was hilarious to see!) means that playing time matters and helps hes now playing triple alpis minutes lololol...and at least looking like somebody that could belong in nba this case imho is very interesting to show that top 30 or top 50 rookies arent that far above the rest ,if at all, as per genes and talent and that the opportunity is a major factor that makes them into develop into stars...this is why sometimes 2nd round player or teen picks develop into MVP and champions jalen green started beyond terrible and now he is somehow only acceptably bad... but hes given 3x playing time alpi is given who started awesome....and who is being punished of course he lacks motivation now to be good on consistent basis.... dont think andrew wigins would ever ever become an allstar starter if he was fed minutes on little spoon like alpi....instead he was given huge portion of minutes and playing time despite being subpar player... year by year by year and voila! he finally arrived... and i bet you any money alpi would have beaten him 1 on 1 if they play tomorrow with a fair officiating so theres no greater difference in talent and genes amongst top 30 rookies its the opportunity and belief in their higher value that makes them become better...kinda like self fulfilling prophecy...
There is no doubt that Sengun deserves more minutes especially when he is hot. But using Jalen as example to further point is self defeating, Jalen has actually proven that he should be playing fewer minutes and should NOT be a starter IMO.
Never know when you're serious or not but comparing any rook to Harden is a conversation ender imo. If you're talking about rook Harden, then you should know Harden came off the bench for YEARS with OKC.
It's not about Wood needing minutes. It's about the team needs Wood to be competitive. If you are the coach, your number one goal is to compete for a win every game. I am quite sure that Wood makes the team more competitive than Sengun would if their PT were switched. Now if you are arguing that we should tank, or that being competitive should not be the coach's number one goal for a rebuilding team, then that's another matter. At this point, I don't see any good reason not to play Wood starter minutes. (Even if you really hate him, at least you should hope that letting him show case his skills would make it easier to trade him.) So the only options are (1) play Sengun as a straight backup at the 5, which is about 12 minutes per game, or (2) try to play the two guys together for some part of the game. I actually want to see more of the #2 experiment because I want to see if Sengun can play at the 4 with another big man in the future.
At this point I am at a nihilistic position believing nothing much will change before we get an actual coach. We are hiding behind the discussion of minute management, not to answer one basic question: 'In what aspect of the game have the rockets improved since the start of the season?' I honestly cannot think of anything. If Wood is getting his time, then there should be something improving on the 5s he is part of. I can list so many negatives about the coaching. The offensive system is basically taking turns. This has a very negative impact, as the team does not have the capacity to search for a second option, if the main option fails. The defense is generally very bad, failing to do proper switches and covering opponents afterwards. Still leading the league in turnovers (though cutting minutes of Sengun lol). There was ball movement at some point during the season (the good days of Sengun), now that is gone as well. The list is endless. On a player development perspective, Sengun has regressed. I mean how is that possible? It is as if the whole goal of the season is to showcase Wood and this is reasonable.
You get more leeway as a rookie, it comes with the territory. Wood (and to a lesser extent KPJ) don't get as much slack because they're a lot older and have a lot more time in NBA systems and off-seasons to train. You're comparing apples to oranges.
Wood is a very talented player. Wood is not quite what we need at this stage of the rebuild. I could see him being a huge boost to a contender. Someone like Boston (who has underachieved). Wood to Boston into TPE. Gordon+Theis for Horford+Aaron Nesmith+2022 first. Boston could make a late season run at it.
lol it doesnt matter if you come off the bench if you play 30-35 minutes a night and given ballhoging privileges....ITS NOT THE SAME you avoiding to discuss harden makes you suspect of being willing to compare honestly actually harden is a perfect figure to compare because if such great players can struggle than anybody can...and hes known to have great stretches of subpar play.... and i can only imagine how mightily he would have struggled playing 4 x 3 minutes a night....we could easily imagine a great 3 pt shooting draught....turnovers...offensive fouls...refs picking him apart not giving him any calls... harden is not some divine being hes a human.. .. now we saw him struggle for months when he was here, where he was deemed a god and he could do anything he wanted....and played 40 minutes a night....yet he often struggled and even hurt his team sometimes... we also saw him struggle on the nets... couldn't score, couldnt get past his man couldnt draw foul to start the season etc... then its only reasonable for a good player to struggle when playing 4 x 3 minutes a night if you dont like harden we can take lebron or jason tatum or kyrie choose any great player and hes been struggling even when allowed to play real games coming off an injury or starting the season then what to think of rookies' struggles that almost didnt even play any real basketball games for almost half a year?
not only showcasing wood but danuel house(!) also, eric gordon and the new acquisition daniel thesis Rockets , their assets, players and valuable playing time are just a training field for the last minutes contenders vet patch
