I'm actually encouraged...which is strange to say...because he's regressed. We've already seen him play better at the NBA level than what he's playing like right now. I think he's in a funk...and I think he's BIG TIME in his head right now.

Send him down to RGV and you'll see him do those kinds of things.

Being able to do stuff like that in glorified rec league games is a far cry from being able to do them in the NBA.

Yeah he’s got to realize he can’t just use his athletic ability against everyone cause the nba is athletic
He’s got to work on his fundamentals and defense
    Learning the hard way

His 1v1 defense has been great the last few games. Once the team gets figured out, he'll figure it out. He's not in a position to succeed right now but he still has a lot to learn. Jalen needs to ball and he needs to be downhill to be effective. Like Morant. Making him a spot up shooter is clipping the kids wings. Porter Jr/Green is like Wood/Theis. It doesn't work. Once the coaching staff realizes that the team will improve.

That would be bad news for your hero Green.....since KPJ is actually playing well and Green is absolute trash right now, he'd be the one catching the pine.

Of course it's beyond stupid to think that a traditional SG can't play next to a combo guard, Green just needs to develop his game to where he actually belongs in the NBA. At that point, Green and KPJ will be complimentary players.

If Green knew how to shoot, had some kind of bag where he wasn't just going to get blocked at the rim time and time again, could handle the ball decently to where he wasn't going to just get it stolen from him, could play at least some form of defense (I know you seem to think he's been good, which is hilarious....his 127 defensive rating last night was AMAZING!!!), then everything would be fine.

I agree with this. He's a slasher/scorer...not a shooter...at least not so far. His first step gives him a gigantic advantage. He's been hesitant recently, which is why I said he's "in his head." All of this can be improved upon. Every bit of it.

He's got an advantage that doesn't amount to much because he's got no clue what to do once he gets by the first defender. Typically he just gets blocked at the rim if there's anyone there or he gets scared into missing a layup. Basically the only good outcomes are when he gets completely uncontested dunks or when he gets bailed out with a whistle.

Having a good PG like KPJ can get him some uncontested dunks, but until he learns how to finish, he's going to be kind of only a transition and spot shooter.....which sucks because he can't shoot.

He's got a weak handle and he's not a creator, so the ball can't really be in his hands much.

He's just not really an NBA caliber player right now, but in a few years he might develop into one.

I would never claim as to be the most diligent pre-draft scout, but I did my fair share of watching games and breakdowns on the games of the top 3 guys in last year’s draft, especially after we got the second pick. Like most of us I was pretty sure that the consensus top 3 guys would all be good players. Cade I thought we had no shot at, so I sadly let that one go. I loved Mobley and thought he had the highest upside of the top-3, but was convinced that Green was going to have the most immediate impact (because I overrated the G-league, admittedly). When I read that Mobley didn’t want to work out for the Rockets I got off the hype train immediately.

So far, Mobley still looks like he has the highest upside, Cade is indeed looking great, and Jalen has not made the immediate impact I thought that he was going to make. Will he finish the season strong? Only time will tell, but I hope so.

I feel like he gets a fair amount of open looks from the 3. It's amazing how bad his shooting is currently. The shots he misses are good shots, he just cant make them.

I feel like he won't be able to finish at the rim clean for a while, teams are scouting him better too and just waits to block him

I think shooting is part mental and part speed of the game. On getting blocked, he's having trouble with traffic.

I think getting out of the shooting funk will help him a little with the drives, but I think he's not going to blossom there until he gets better with contact or Rockets spread the floor better when he's on it.

Not a terrible game, good to see he has been aggressive getting to the basket and getting the foul calls. Needs to be more picky on who he is attacking at the basket as Wiggins and Looney are not ideal targets.

Defensively, he still gets lost on assignments but the eye test shows he is better than the first day. He is very quick and agile getting through screens and very quick to recover to contest.

    The shooting is still disappointing.

Aside from the unnecessary bashing by dem mobley folks.
it is quite troubling to see for someone touted as an offensive shooter, to be lacking in a lot of ways to score.
Driving to the rim should probably be put on hold until he gets a real big man to help draw defensive attention. Green doesnt seem crafty or strong enough to score on a big man already at the paint.
I would like to see him spice up his offense game and appreciate the effort on Defense.

That's just not true. Over the past three games, opponents who have been shooting 45.1% for the year shot 57.1% against Jalen. Yes, for most of our team the defense has been bad. But people need to stop this myth that Jalen plays good, average, decent, or even slightly below average defense. He doesn't.

That can certainly be adjusted but those stretches of games seem to be outliers compared to the rest of his season.

If we took out his best 4 shooting games (24/37) and his worst 4 shooting games (0/25) from 3 point land then he's shooting 24.7% from 3 over the remaining games.

For fun I even took out the 7 games where he was a combined 0/34 from 3 and he was still only shooting 34% from 3 for the remaining 28 games.

    He's a shooting guard who can't shoot.

They aren’t going to pull him or send him to the G League. They may bench him and let him work against opposing benches, which I think would be beneficial.

However I think most of the player development comes during the off-season. He came in his rookie season as weak and raw, hopefully he spends the money and time on some off-season trainers and coaches.

I’ve seen nothing to suggest he doesn’t have a strong work ethic, but the off-season will be telling.

    Well… only shoot free throws.

It’s weird how Wood and KPJ are shooting better but can’t find their touch at the line.

I was not aware of this.
my eye-test does tell me that he puts up more effort on D now than at the beginning of the season. I guess it’s a ‘low baseline’ bias situation…

Disagreed. Getting fouls and shooting from the line is the only thing he is better at than his teammates.

It’s just going to be trial and error on his drives.
