Disagree, and you could extend your reasoning to wearing clothes is detrimental to reading body language. If I don't have a shirt on, people can see my nipples get hard, my body get goosebumps. If I don't wear any clothes, you would know when I'm excited to see you or not. People, especially kids, adapt. I don't think the psychological impact of the pandemic will be a cognitive disadvantage.

It will be: Psychological impact on children/adolescents is significant, either due to the fear of the illness or social isolation related to COVID-19.

"Anti-mask assholes"? I wear masks where it is required. But I don't think that saying children should not be forced to wear masks makes you an *******.

Masking in general (with the exception of N95) has already been proven to do very little by way of protection. Having children be required to wear masks is just beyond lunacy at this point. Let their parents decide if they want to send their child to school in a mask or not.

Never got the big fuss about masks. Why can't kids wear masks, it's just a piece of cloth.

I personally hate masks because it creates a lots of garbage, and tedious to put on and off to go in and out of stores and stuff, but it's more like an annoyance than anything else.

Anyway I just don't see why kids are any different than adults, it's just a mask

Do you 'force' kids to wear shoes? I would have been in hog heaven if I didn't have to wear shoes to school as a kid.

If parents are worried about their children being exposed, they can mask their own children. Just make it optional.

The mask fanatics on this thread - if you think they work so well, then parents have the choice to put them on their own children. Two FFP3 masks on top of each other, if you are so inclined. But don't force other children to wear them.

Same should actually be true for adults, but it's more urgent when it comes to children.

Comes down to - are you someone who believes in personal freedom, responsibility and choice, or are you a leftist?

Who’s regulating the masks wearing anyways ? It’s the mask wearer. What’s the point of wearing it when they have their nose sticking out too lol
Then there’s the double maskers. That’s actually worse than wearing a good 95 mask.

The hilarious part is if you know people who are ER doctors who deal with Covid patients everyday. You think they are going to triple mask when they go to restaurant or bar ? Go ask them

Imagine if parents could choose to not put a seatbelt on their kids because those poor things can't crawl around and play in the car when restrained. Imagine if it was a parents choice to drive drunk with their kids in a car, or to buy their children alcohol and cigarettes. Imagine if parents could have the freedom to arm their kids on the street. Freedom comes with responsibility to protect others.

No, its known that younger children study faces when it comes to key developments in language and other cognitive developmental areas. Wearing a shirt or pants really isn't comparable.

Having said that, I will admit that the research on masks specifically is mixed. There are some studies that show that is does have a pronounced impact. but there are other studies that show that children under 11 usually look at the eyes and not the mouth, and while diction and inflexion are hindered by masks, if they have reasonable contact with their parents daily without a mask, it isn't as much a concern.

Yes children adapt, but it doesn't mean that they are not at a disadvantage.

With Omicron, it's time to take the masks off our children. Even the staunchest illiberal leftists among you will eventually understand.

I think you can also look at kids development that grew up blind (as an extreme case)...

Human interaction is so much more than visual and definitely much more than just the mouth area. Perhaps those that have hearing problem might have delayed skill in reading lips and emotion from the full face area.

In speech class (at least at my school), the mask goes down because of the importance of lips movement.
