nobody want this dude anymore? a Banchero/Sengun frontcourt would be some old school bruising basketball and i'm here for it. watch the florida st video starting at around 3:15. absolutely took over .
I think everyone likes Paolo. He just appears to be the biggest defensive liability of the top three, and then offensively I'm not convinced he's all that far ahead of either Smith or Holmgren.
I want a defensive big man. Someone to replace wood and actually wants to play center or a real point guard if kpj experiement isn't going well.
That pointless win streak early on will cost the Rockets a top 3 pick and a franchise player, it seems likely.
Which was actually a MORE PHYSICAL era without the benefit of nutrition, weight traing and medical advances available right now.
Everyone seems to be overly focused on the odds for top 3 picks, the real story is how far the teams can drop and those percentages. The third worst team is 20% more likely to get the 5th or 6th pick than a top 2 pick, and could even slide to 7th pick. On the other hand, the worst team has a 0% chance of picking 6th. If we get out tanked by OKC and finish with the 4th worst record, the Rockets would be more likely to pick 6th or 7th than 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Oddly enough, the Rockets with the 4th worst record would be 3.5x more likely to get the 6th pick than the 5th pick.
Love Banchero's game, similar to a bigger stronger more skilled Cade, but without the defensive upside. And Banchero has really high offensive IQ and deep bag to match. If Rockets had drafted Mobley, Banchero would be my pick in this draft. But Rockets cannot field a team of YOUNG franchise players who ALL need the ball to be successful. And WORSE, are a net negative on defense with potential to be a net neutral, maybe. Banchero, Green and Sengun are all ball dominant and MUST have the ball to have success. On the worst defense in entire NBA, Banchero would only exacerbate this issue. It's a shame really that Rockets brain trust put team in position to NOT take BPA with another potential top 3 pick. AGAIN.
I agree with the huge differences between then and now when it comes to nutrition, weight training, etc., and particularly medical advances (not to mention the physical play, which was vastly different than today). Thinking of Holmgren's physique, as far as players back in the day go, Kareem was a couple of inches taller than Chet at 7'2" and weighed 225 during his NBA days. That's a 35 pound difference, which is huge. Sampson, a famous tower at 7'4", weighed 228. During his short prime, he looked positively muscled up compared to Chet, even being 4 inches taller. Then you have Chet at an even 7 feet, but weighing in at 190. How much weight can he reasonably put on? Certainly 10lbs, perhaps 15. Could he possibly get to 210? 215? I don't know. That would be carrying another 20-25 pounds, and I'm skeptical that he could manage it, or that we would want him to. If he did, what would it do to his lower body? His knees, ankles, and feet? Vastly different physiques, of course, but I've always thought that having Yao bulk up contributed greatly to shortening his career. Chet would be a risk, no doubt about it, but he's an intriguing prospect nevertheless.
I think you have to go BPA no matter what. Figure the fit out later. I disagree that Green and Sengun are ball dominant players. I think Sengun's ability to pass coupled with Banchero as well as Green's aparrent unselfishness could be a really exciting. Watching the ball whiz around and limit the need for a true PG could be the way to go. Find two 3D players to surround them I think we could have a really nice team.
All 3 are different types of offensive players. Banchero is by far the best offensive 1v1 player in top 5. But needs ball to dominate. Chet and Jabari are better off ball players. Paolo is also the weakest defender. Neither Jabari or Chet are as elite all around defenders as Mobley, Barnes, Garuba or Herb Jones but both are more productive now and have higher defensive upside than Paolo.
How does Sengun pass the ball if he doesn't have the ball? Sengun is at his very best when he is hub of offense and he is facillitator in PNR or in paint. And Green is an extremely inefficient off ball player right now and even when he ball dominates like last night he struggles finishing and shooting. Paolo DEFINITELY needs the ball because his elite skillset is as an iso scorer and facillitator. And ALL THREE are below average 3ball shooters.
out of all the tanking teams the rockets have the most talent, Vets either need to be bench or traded because I really don't want to miss out on a top 3 pick.
Orlando with Shaq and Webber. I believe they tweaked the odds after that bc Orlando wasn't that bad before winning the lottery in 93.
I think 4 times. Rockets 83-84, Orlando 92-93, Cleveland 13-14 and Philly in 16-17. Has happened twice in the last 8 years.
