Think this is wildly overblown if not completely false. Caserio has publicly said Watson is done as a Texan, that’s all that matters.
My guess is because the Texans know what they are at this current time…….a last resort. They may swing for the fences and try, but ultimately they know the current state of their franchise is only attractive to coaching candidates that don’t have better options…….i.e. of the first time head-coaching variety that wouldn’t be on the radar of 90% of the league’s other franchises. The Texans think “Maybe we’ll get lucky and strike oil, but if not we’ll fire the hire and move onto the next one until we can make the franchise a more attractive job for coaching candidates in the future”.
Brian Flores is a good balance of hard but relatable. He got the most out of that squad in Miami. Most of those other candidates won't even make it through the media press conference interview let alone getting the players of today to run through a wall for them. One of the reasons is because of where this organization has put itself from a image standpoint. That's what's your underestimating here. To affect positive change and rebrand all this BS it's going to take a lot of not doing what you did in the past. Ignore it and keep hiring yes men or friends of close friends and family then we will all find ourselves looking at a DUMB football organization get exposed on GameDays for years to come.
I don't understand the "getting players to come" narrative. You don't rebuild a team by signing high profile free agents. FA attractiveness is one of the least of my concerns tbh. Draft well, get a good coach in here, develop players, and you will attract FAs that can help fill out the roster. What do you dislike about KOC?
This has nothing to do with what you said about Flores being new generation cultural fit. He’s a hard ass, old school coach. Nothing new generation about him. I like Flores, he got the best out of Miami but he also didn’t work well with others and banged his head against the wall on offense. The Texans being a dumb franchise has nothing to do with Flores being old school. Out of all the candidates he’s the most old school and similar to OB.
Brian Flores’ head-coaching resume, albeit limited, is this: In 2020 he took a Miami roster many expected to be the worst in the league to the verge of the playoffs with questionable QB play for a franchise that had traded away all of its valuable assets for future picks and was supposed to be in tank mode. Perhaps a longer head-coaching sample size will offer up some fleas, but at this point in time, Flores= results with limited tools and franchises should, and are, asking what he could do with better tools. If there is an argument against Flores for the Texans it would be that his results are counterintuitive to the franchise’s current goals of tanking and rebuilding through the draft
While I would like this, I don’t think KOC would leave LA to be OC here when he has all that over there
I agree 100%. KOC as a complete layman is my top pick at this point but anyone but McCown would make sense. McCown would be by far the funniest hire since …David Culley.
Yeah, McCown needs to earn his stripes. He might be good but no way I would be on board with him skipping the process.
I don’t know, but this article offers a possible explanation: “Say what you will about the Los Angeles Rams, but they definitely swing for the fences. On Monday they shocked the NFL by swinging a trade for seven-time All-Pro defensive end Von Miller. In the process, the Rams gave up two more high draft picks, a pattern that has repeated itself over the years. This latest move proved again that the franchise is constantly in win-now mode, regardless of the long-term consequences. As our own Liam McKeone pointed out, the Rams haven't made a first-round selection since 2016 when they drafted Jared Goff. They won't have another first-round pick until 2024. They gave up two first-rounders in the trade for Jalen Ramsey, and two more to acquire Matt Stafford from the Lions this offseason. They've also given away a whole host of other picks, leaving them with limited options to improve their roster in the future. LA is 7-1 right now and the team hasn't even really hit its stride. In the short-term, the strategy seems to be working. The Rams have made the playoffs in three of the past four seasons -- including two NFC West titles and a Super Bowl appearance -- and went 9-7 and just missed the postseason in 2019. Rams general manager Les Snead is threading a treacherous needle here. He's adding expensive veterans while surrendering the chance to add cheap young talent through the draft. It feels short-sighted. So how long can the Rams actually be "all-in" before they go bust? They have no cap space and should be up against the limit in 2022. They won't pick until the fifth-round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and only own two seventh-rounders after that. In 2023 they have surrendered their first- and fourth-round picks. That's a heck of a lot of potential talent they have given up. While adding Von Miller to a defense that already features Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey is going to be really fun, the long-term consequences could be serious. The franchise faces a harsh reality in the not-too-distant future. The Rams have mortgaged a lot to win now, so they had better do so, because anything less than a Super Bowl title would be a severe disappointment.“
When I said, "current players and player to come" I'm referring to all ways we acquire football players. Those players have to take this organization seriously and have the right mentality to win after that. Sounds simple but look at the Texans organization right now and what all the former players are saying about this organization. It is plain ridiculous. It just can't be ignore. It has to addressed the right way in action. KOC what has he proved and earned? What's so impressive? Has he coached chicken **** up to chicken salad or is he just a guy that needs his turn to coach because he's coaching a offense that's loaded with talent and it looks good?
Time to hire Tom Brady! Offer him the job today! Y’know, searching for coaches without experience and wanting to be “Patriots South”. Why not the guy with no experience and the guy responsible for the Patriots success?
