Given Russian troop movements and buildup, it appears an invasion is imminent.

    A war is "imminent" where:

    1. Democracy in Europe is being threatened by an authoritarian state
    2. NATO countries are right next to a very credible potential aggressor and US signed a treaty to protect small baltic countries where a provocation is simpler to stage and can set off a nuclear stand off between US and Russia.
    3. Europe will have to react to it with economic sanctions, just like they did with Crimea, thus destabilizing the world economy (concerns US) and the political stability of the region that we are tightly involved with both ideologically, militarily and economically.
    4. Diplomacy with Russia breaks down. How many nuclear pariah states does world has capacity to deal with in a military standoff type of fashion before something goes haywire?

Seems pretty important. I'd venture to say huge..

The number of days I have read war is imminent now makes me think nothing will actually happen. It’s just Russian posturing to remind Ukraine whose sphere of influence they reside in.

Just for some perspective, if the US lost a state it could lose up to 3 trillion, which is more than all of the United Kingdom. It would be devastating, but obviously not the end. Russia and China have already lost the Ukraine and Taiwan dollars, so it's not the same, but it does remind you how they look at it. While the US would not likely go to war over a state that seceded, it would be miffed. Ukraine is worth 157 Billion. Taiwan is 700 Billion. Lebron James is 1 Billion...

So you're saying that giving Lebron to the Russians will not be enough to keep them out of Ukraine?

We would have to throw in Ja Morant to keep the offer valid at this point.
