Personally, and I could be wrong, I don't think it has anything to do with gambling. He just isn't a good 1 on 1 defender. He gets either bullied or he's too short to alter the shot once they get in the paint.

His defensive footwork isn't great, though he makes up with it somewhat with hustle. The problem is, in a clutch one-on-one situation there's not really a lot that pure hustle will get you, besides the occasional recovery. It's not an athleticism problem, Mathews is actually not a bad athlete, per-se...but he needs to work on his fundamentals on defense because he's not such a good athlete that he can make up for not sliding his feet properly (though his awareness is above-average, in my opinion)

this is the trouble with tanking...once you start tanking youll do it forever...because you tank in the first place because you dont know how to develop...if you knew how to develop you wouldnt be tanking at all...because talent is everywhere.... oth no top picks will ever help you because you just will continue to cut the corners and not make much out of top talent you are given...
not only these coaches dont know how to develop, they purposefully hold back rookies by not giving them PT in favor of players they wanna trade...

if theyd just give sengun pt hed become better of itself....if they would just leave him alone, just by playing...by mere practice and repetition...and playing real games because honestly 12 minutes a night isnt basketball games...its crumbs....

but ill guess hell be getting more playing time when it will be his turn to get traded....this is the vicious circle of tanking

    Some thoughts on tonight:

Thought Sengun really struggled tonight, especially on the defensive end. I'm okay with that. He's a rookie and he's gonna have some bumps along the way.

I like that Green had an okay game after a few bad ones. I'm really hoping soon we'll see him string together 20+ point games with efficient shooting, especially from deep. He has many aspects of his game that need to improve, and one of them is handles. If he was a better dribbler with a better set of crossovers, I think he'd be able to do a lot more on offense. Right now he has his one side to side dribble and speed drive which, when it's not there, he literally gets stuck.

I wish Silas would play the hot hand at times. KJ Martin was so efficient offensively and giving this team so much. I would have kept Tate on the bench and ridden the rest of the way with him. Tate unfortunately too often sits out at the three point line, and he is such a poor shooter from out there that it hinders the rest of the offense. Although he occasionally knocks them down, other misses can be so far off that they almost look like heaves. Next year I hope whoever we draft can start alongside Sengun and that we see Tate, if he's on the team, moved to the bench. He really is more of a bench player on a decent team than a starter the way we're using him.

Matthews had a great shooting night, but on defense he needs to become more disciplined. It is like the Josh Christopher problem, though Christopher has better recovery. It's great to play aggressive. But sometimes they're so close to their defender and biting so often that a simple fake will get them completely thrown out of the play.

I'm so happy to see Wood playing the way he is. I really hope other teams are watching this and preparing good offers for him at the deadline.

Simmons is legit. He hit some tough shots tonight, and he's going to be a special player. I'm amazed he hasn't been given more court time and that it took a Dame injury for him to see real minutes.

Anyways, not a tough loss because we didn't give up a lead or anything, and glad the team fought till the end. Hoping this team comes to play on Monday against the Warriors.

    We looked ok

Usual wood . Green looked good . Jc too , Matthews hit enough 3’s to keep us around but it looks like his body is already breaking down .

Tate is no pj yet . Gordy off night kpj out .. easy recipe for loss

    sengun non-factor ;)

Sengun and Jalen were so confident before they became Rockets. Silas has made them doubt everything they knew about basketball.

I wouldn't be surprised if Garubas surpasses them talent wise because he's in the G-league

This team will never beat anyone until they start playing defense. Silas needs to make that his highest priority or he won’t be coaching this team for very much longer. It’s embarrassing how bad they are defensively.

If you noticed - the Rockets hit a lot of cutters tonight …specially when you had Green at PG , KMJ at PF and Wood at Center…. Wasn’t much dribbling just off the ball movement and crisp passing
