In his defense though, Collins usually plays with another big, and is at best a 2nd (3rd) option on a team where Wood has been the 1st. So i wouldnt be surprised if Collins had a few more shot attempts in this system.

    Agree.

But like Wood, Collins will never be best player on playoff team. Likely not even 2nd best player.

Wasn't he (arguably) the 2nd best player on the Hawks last season?

I thought he was great for most of the playoffs, came up pretty big in that Philly series at key times.

I prefer the JJJ type big, - but it is hard to deny Collins production so far

Versus Knicks and Bucks, Collins was 3rd best offensive player on the Hawks behind Trae and Bogdan.

And on defense he was not even top 3 behind Capela, Hunter and Bogdan.

Same. But why bother trying to get 2 1st rounders when you had the great opportunity to offer Victor Oladipo and his singing talents a ridiculous extension?

I think Collins can be a #2 player on a playoff team, remember he was #2 on the Hawks team last year and beat a New York team that has not been the same since ATL knocked them out the playoffs. Also, ATL beat 76ers so bad that Simmons does not want to go back to his old team. Collins is a better team player and all around player than Wood.

    Agree to disagree.

Similar players but I give edge to Wood. Once upon a time a 20/10 center was near automatic All Star.

Especially one that shoots +37% from 3P.

Agreed. Collins was absolute nails in the postseason and really showed his scoring versatility. The character issues are pretty different as well.

    5 year / $125 million for a 24 year old seems like a bet.

What edge does Wood have over Collins from your perspective? Collins averaged 21/10 on 58/40/80 shooting splits the first year Trae arrived in Atlanta. Since then Collins' field goal attempts have dipped but he's still just as efficient. He's been shooting around 40% from three over the past 3 seasons and he a very good FT shooter for his size/height. I'm genuinely curious.

Collins is uber explosive but strictly a 4.

And while JC has the better 3P% he takes almost half as many 3's as Wood. He is a better shooter than Wood but not as prolific.

And JC has only had ONE season as double digit rebounder and ONE season with +20 PPG as a starter.

Compared to Wood who has averaged 20/10 in every season as a starter. Wood is older but his play is consistently trending upwards while JC seems to have peaked in production 2 seasons ago.

And defensively lacks the length (6'10 wingspan) to be able to defend 5's or switch successfully on guards or consistently recover when beaten. Wood has potential to improve in this area with his 7'5 wingspan and recent success switching onto guards.

But don't get me wrong, I like JC, just believe Wood is the slightly better and ascending player.

Honestly, would rather add a plus defender like Myles Turner, a true defensive 5, who can also provide spacing due his 3ball.

Turner has also led NBA in blocked shots the last 2 full seasons.

SI also reporting that Hawks have targeted Pistons Jerami Grant and Spurs Derrick White.

Grant would make Hawks much more dangerous in playoffs, much better defender and scorer than JC.

And I'd love to find a way to pilfer Jalen Johnson from Hawks.

I think he could be more versatile player than JC, especially defensively and as a secondary playmaker.
