Can someone explain to me the fascination with Gannon? What has he proved?

What has any coaching candidate that has been mentioned, proved?

There’s no way to know if any of these guys will be good coaches. I tell you what though…Caserio has to nail this HC hire. GMs typically don’t get 3 shots at hiring a HC. This is already coach number 2.

It seems like they’re looking hard into Gannon and O’Connell which indicates, in my opinion, that they are looking for a younger guy who has good communication skills, leadership qualities, and has a kind of “aura” that will eventually attract players to want to come play here. I’ll begrudgingly admit that Josh McCown also has the qualities I just mentioned.

The only reason I don’t want McCown is because of the Easterby connection and the local and national onslaught that would rain down on the Texans organization and fans upon hiring a guy who hasn’t coached a lick outside of volunteering at a high school.

The truth is- this past year was one of the most depressing seasons I’ve ever experienced as a Texans fan. Went to nearly every game at NRG this year and the stadium was as empty as I’ve ever seen it. No matter who they hire, next season will be rough again… but at least we will have young talent to give us hope.

Im starting to lean McConnell. He's the only guy who has experienced some success with his team recently and he's up to date with that offense. Instead of another "Yes" man in McCown go with a guy who will bring some new ideas to the mix that have worked at the NFL level. I think he could help to further the development of Mills. Big question will be is Mills going to be like Jared Goff in that offense or like Stafford?

He has been more than just be an assistant HS football coach.

It doesn’t matter. I hate to say it, but whatever they do, you know it is going to disappoint. I have absolutely zero confidence in this organization right now. Caserio actually provides a glimpse of hope I guess, but still, my expectations aren’t exactly high for them to do anything right.

Good stuff…thanks for posting. The more I read about him, the more I hear current and past players speak about him the more I like the idea of him becoming the HC.

“I like Josh. He’s been on so many teams that he knows half of the offenses in the league because he’s been around a lot of teams as the backup. He’s assisted in developing the quarterbacks to see it a certain way. I think he’s helped coaches with game plans. It’s an advantage for a coach to have been a backup quarterback. Let’s be honest. When I see a backup quarterback get in the game, at some point, he will reveal why he’s a backup.

“The true essence of a backup’s value is because they study so much that they have to be a second pair of eyes for the quarterback, the coach, and the offensive coordinator. That’s a unique responsibility. Not everybody is built for it, but backup quarterbacks have a unique advantage in studying the game and knowing so much. Frank Reich, Doug Pederson, Jason Garrett, they were all backup quarterbacks. They’ve seen the inside of the game. It doesn’t surprise me at all that Josh is being considered for a head coaching job.”

Supposedly sharp as whip. McVay like intelligence…and apparently his interviews have gone very well. Also not a direct descendant from the Patriots system.

Isn’t this the same as Caserio not bringing in McDaniels, Daboll, or Mayo if it holds? And this is coming from a front office that has interviewed Hines Ward and Josh McCown (twice!).

It would be nice to not have to hear the term “Patriots South” again.
