Not excusing his part in the Bush admin, but what about this statement is wrong? How is it anyone elses fault if Putin invades other than Putin? That's like saying it is Churchill's fault that Japan decided to bomb Pearl Harbor.

You and the MAGA right are so hateful of Biden that literally everything in the world that happens is his fault in your eyes. Puppy gets hit by a car in Costa Rica... Biden's fault.

Give Putin just a little bit of agency in this decision please. That's the only point I see here. I don't see a full throated advocacy for deploying 100,000 troops to Kiev here just to wag the dog nor has anyone in Biden's camp advocated for that. Biden going to war makes him LESS popular with Democrats. He's not running in 2024 as a Republican where you guys never saw a war you didn't love when the country has a bunch of poor brown people in it.

"Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But after all it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or fascist dictorship, or a parliament or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace makers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country. "

Perhaps they won't invade. I hope not. It would be great if it could be avoided.

The only answer to war is a multinational hit squad that assassinates the leader or leaders who start it.

It's funny to see Commodore's conversion to Putin fanatic. Who wants to look for his posts during the Obama era criticizing the US for not being tough enough on Russia?

Isn't the fact that the US has a mostly unregulated press/media the difference here? Russia and China both go to great lengths to control the messaging that reaches their citizens, which makes it enormously more difficult to wage a media war with them. Granted, many of the citizens get around the censorship, but probably not to the degree that the CIA can make the same impact that Russian/Chinese intelligence do on us.

They're mostly homogenous populations under fear driven rule. Sometimes fear of Muslims like Chechnian or Uighr. Other times fear of losing more than what they already have (MAGA equivalent). I'm sure the fear of speaking up is already baked in the deep surveillance state.

I'm more familiar with China though. They probably complain a lot about government problems but it's like The Family. You don't openly say **** about The Family unless you want to get slapped.

By slapped, I mean disappeared. Same thing in my family.... What?
