The only thing that makes more sense than hiring a 66 year old coach who has never been a coordinator is to fire him for a guy who has no experience coaching above the high school level.

Man at this point just make Easterby coach...the only time anything will ever change is when either McNair or Easterby kick the bucket...

Right now Josh McCown is another David Culley. WTF are they thinking interviewing a guy with no head coaching experience, and has never called plays before? F*** Easterby.

Looking for a good ol’ boy puppet who will carry out their wishes (see: Culley, David; NBA/Morey/Rockets—McHale, Kevin)

No, this is not Steve Kerr or Steve Nash or the Nets or the Warriors. (Raw/rookie coaches on teams ready to win) (Raw/rookie coach on a dogshit Texans team with very little talent not ready to win, trying to set out the “culture” Jack wants)

That and no worthwhile coach (and/or coach with options) wants to come to this franchise.

McCown might be great one day, but it sure as hell won’t be right now with the Texans. He needs more experience, and Houston needs to stop with the ridiculous coaching hires and do something right for a change. They are rapidly becoming the most dysfunctional organization in all of professional sports. A McCown hire right now would only further cement that distinction.

I think we just have to be patient and wait on the pitchforks until they actually make a hire like McCown. I can't imagine the optics on firing a black coach after a year only to hire a white guy that has literally never been a coach. I just can't fathom it. I know...I know its the Texans, but this would just be the icing on the cake and think Caserio is smarter than that.

I guess I'm in the minority.

I say screw it. Hire him.

The lack of interview requests with Mayo and McDaniels is odd though. Almost like they're trying too hard to pretend the hire wasn't predetermined.

Interesting… players like the guy and seem to be excited that he is getting interviewed. No one knows how any coach will do in the future. We will have to wait and see like everyone else.

Honestly part of me wants the hire to happen for that reason. They either hit and pull themselves out of the dumpster fire or it spectacularly fails and confirms what most of us already know.

Yeah, I'm kind of in this boat. At this point I feel like the Texans are such a dumpster fire (in reality and by reputation throughout the league) that any young, promising coach that has sufficient coordinator experience won't be interested in the drama they know they would endure here. So instead you find a guy who is young and promising but has very little experience and hope he turns out to have what it takes. McCown kind of fits that. Feels like a crap shoot but if it fails miserably again, then I'm pretty sure we will know all we need to know about Caserio, who I feel is still a bit of an unknown on his GM skills.

Gannon reportedly a front-runner for Texans job

The first interview for Gannon came on Tuesday with the Houston Texans and he reportedly “made a very strong impression” on the Texans and “is considered by some in that building to be the current front-runner for the job,” ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported.

The other note from Graziano about Gannon is about his ability to connect and build relationships with players and fellow coaches. That’s important for some Eagles fans who might be confused as to why Gannon is garnering so much attention as a head coaching candidate.

Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon appears to be the leading candidate for Texans' head coaching job

According to Dan Graziano of ESPN.com, Gannon has quietly emerged as the front-runner for the Texans opening.

One of the hottest names out there is that of Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who I’m told made a very strong impression in his interview with the Texans and is considered by some in that building to be the current front-runner for the job. A head-coach job in this cycle would represent a rapid rise for Gannon, who was the Colts’ defensive backs coach two years ago and is coming off his first season as a coordinator.
Gannon has done a good job of connecting with his players, and even during some early struggles regarding the Eagles’ defensive schemes, the defensive coordinator still had his personnel playing hard.

Players credit Gannon for his ability to thoroughly explain his decisions and those solid communication skills have Philadelphia’s defensive coordinator set to be one and done for all the right reasons.
