KPjr has more to do with us winning games RIGHT NOW than anyone on the roster

KPJ has definitely played better since the Washington game - looks more like last season.

I'm not the kind of dork who's gonna say "b-b-but his D-fense!" because the whole Rockets defense has been horrible, i mean even nominally ok defenders like Gordon are falling asleep on defense. And things like the dumb after TO plays last night. This is a common feature of bad teams.

 

The clutch threes are nice. He's had good stretches before. Can he turn a corner in consistency? Hopefully in the next year or so!

It would be really dumb to b-b-but his D-fense since his defense is close to elite at t his point. That is by far the most impressive thing KPJ has done this season is going from horrible on defense to arguably our best defender (Tate may be better, but is too short for his position).

Are you watching the games? I’ve watched every minute of every game the last 2 years and his defense has surpassed every body on this team other than Tate and Nwaba (but Nwaba is unplayable on offense). I’m not the only one commenting on it. Announcers, coaches, and players as well as most the objective posters on this board. He has the length and, now, has the will to really excel at that end of the court and is doing it. The jury is still out on his offense and ability to be a PG, but not on his defense both one on one and in the team concept.

But in addition to this his advanced defensive stats put him near the bottom of the team.

Now in fairness most of the Rockets starters are in the bottom half, bc they play against other teams starters. But there's nothing there to support the idea that he's elite

 

I would like to see his stats for the last 15 games or so. Seasonal stats don’t show growth. Also, stats are not the end all. If they were than Christian Wood would be a no-brainer max player and Jalen Green back in RGV. Eye test is something real and is what coaches rely on. I also think that coaches and Stone are pouring over much more tape than you and are very high on Porter’s growing defensive chops.

 

I just like that he is playing a better POINT than he had been, getting people better shots and not turning it over. He only had 1 yesterday against 8 assists, for him that is major improvement.

And, he only took 12 shots, that shows he is trying to get others involved more than himself, heck Green didn't play in the 4th quarter and had one more shot than Porter.

A Point that is unselfish and can still score a bit, that is progress.

My advice to you is to learn to have empathy for people that aren't you, especially young adults that grew up rough.

Look, that's happened to ALL the Rockets players this year and happened to ALL of them last night - Porter Jr is by no means alone, it's a bad defensive team - 29th in the league-

I just don't see the "elite" here. Tate, you can argue, he's elite, even in the context of this bad defensive team. His stats and his highlights show it. KPJ? Evidence of him being elite doesn't seem to be there.

Note, I'm not that concerned about it. Getting an elite offensive talentis way more important and allows you to put Nwabas and Tates - who are comparatively easy to find - on the floor to help build a team defensive unit that doesnt' suck.
