Agree that Mark Knopfler is an underrated legend. Disagree that Devo shouldn't be in the same conversation (the conversation being late 70s/early 80s bands that made some pretty influential music). Both have stood the test of time well. I'd argue that Devo had more lasting influence. That being said, Devo is a much weirder outcast compared to the other bands mentioned in the thread.
That's a weird comparison. Although Mark Mothersbaugh (lead of Devo) has made a great career doing scores for film and tv.
Saw Knopfler at the Moody Theater a couple of years ago, he opened the show with "I'll play some of what you guys want, later, but I'm going to play my own stuff now" It was a boring show, but at least I can say I saw him live.
I saw Duran Duran in their prime, but I didn’t catch Depeche Mode until they were as old AF. Depeche Mode was still superior.

I would have chosen Depeche Mode except for 2 songs performed by Duran Duran that are outstanding.... A View to a Kill and Come Undone. Duran Duran in a very close decision.
