I see, I thought it might be an aggregator.

I'll admit that I used to listen to Rogan often. His podcast used to be fun and interesting. Lately, it has fallen of a cliff. He spreads Covid misinformation constantly. That and his crusade against "wokeness" and "censorship" have killed the show for me.

Its interesting the takes you get from people and organizations that obviously have never listened to the show. He is not trying to be the next Rush. He doesn't get paid more if he has higher rating, so his turn to the right isn't about ratings. He isn't a grifter - he already has a $100 million deal with Spotify and makes plenty from standup and the UFC.

The problem is he isn't too bright, so he's been fooled by antivaxx and right wing grifters. And now he has created and lives in his own echo chamber and most of his guests are afraid to question him because they don't want to get kicked off the gravy train.

This is an intriguing take, but Rush was not just in it for the money, he also liked the power and influence.

Yes I think Rogan is dumb, but I don't think it's as simple as he actually believes everything he says, he is playing to an audience just like Limbaugh, and he enjoys the adulation, so it's not about money anymore it's about his ego.

I admit I have not listened much, but none of what you said about him means he is different from Rush.

Limbaugh had the equivalent deal when he syndicated, yet he still was a blowhard.

There's no political tribalism associated with Joe Rogan's show, which you can't say about CNN and Fox
    @VooDooPope
However you can say that the people who watch CNN and FOX have inferior televisions and surround sound systems

Maybe, but a lot less than you likely think. Things have changed quite a bit. A lot of people are using social media if they are purposely slanted or using sites that accumulate news as sources. They may go back and read the article cited or the clip from a television/news show but some don't even do that.

A lot of people no longer watch network or cable television.

Places that gather news and stories like Reddit are extremely popular and actually usually do a good job.

    Agreed.

Look, I don't like Kylie and the Kardasians, but they get it. They used newer tech like Instagram and marketed themselves to be super rich.
And they understand that, even in their 'personal' lives, date high profile NBA players and Rappers.

That hits the demographic of girls and guys who consume their content.

Rogan has a broad audience, it's not tied to advertisers or networks or political parties.
    broad audience > narrow audience.

Yeah, I am out of touch with how people get most of their media, I just don't like the slander of places like MSNBC as if they are worse than any other source.

I really am worried about the self selection of news sources, too many people seek out "news" that tells them what they want to hear.

I watch and read a lot and Morning Joe is probably the best mix of conservative and progressive takes, Joe is more than just right of center and his co-host is a uber Liberal and the guest are no nonsense outside of Al Sharpton and he is not an uber liberal.

Yeah I am a big fan of the show, mainly because most of the others are trying to appeal to a certain demographic to hard.

I never even realized how popular he was until the pandemic. I always thought of him as the UFC guy like Buffer.

I honestly think it's weird to religiously listen to anyone regularly and that includes sports radio.

It's really amazing the rise of somebody like Joe Rogan but the overlap of him being the UFC guy and now the Lord of the Bros makes total sense.

He is High Lord of the Bros.

I can't even explain him or what he does, just google him.

Rush Limbaugh 20/21 with a podcast.

I really think he believes the **** he's saying. I went to https://www.reddit.com/r/JoeRogan/ several months ago to see if anyone else thought the podcast went downhill and to my surprise 75% of the content there is commiserating about how awful he is now. The general consensus is has always been a contrarian that believes in conspiracies and is easily influenced. Those conspiracies have just shifted to the right.

The short time it took to go from smoking weed and talking about ancient civilizations and the stoned ape theory to drinking whiskey and shaking his fist at the government and big tech is a little shocking, but it's not surprising. He is a smart guy in a lot of way, but has almost no critical thinking skills and has bought into a lot of bullshit.

I have no idea how Rogan became so mainstream in the past few years. I started listening to his stuff because I have been a huge MMA fan since the early 2000's. He was one of the best shows out there for getting high profile UFC fighters to just chat for hours honestly. Other than his MMA stuff, i always thought he was just another middle aged stoner that believes in random conspiracy theories and kept pushing his supplements. It was never that serious.

Now I hear people actually taking Rogan's opinion like gospel, like what? I also find it funny that the left leaning media are painting him like some kind of far right nut case. I never found Joe to be political one way or another. His anti vaccine stance is not political by any means, it's actually quite consistent with his take on most health and fitness topics, which is just all over the place. I mean this is the same guy who has been pushing products like Alpha Brain for the past decade, goes on random ass diet fads and takes a tons of supplements.

Either way I still think a stoner podcaster that just shoots the **** somehow turned him into being labeled a hero on one side, and menace to society on the other. I just wish he go back to having more MMA guests on like before.

you hit the mark, his audience is not based on political tribalism. it's a much broader audience.

When Joe took down the cool mug shots and put up the American flag I knew it was over.
