We can’t really control where we pick, but we are likely to have a very early 2022 pick. 1). Trade Wood, Gordon and KPJ for picks or a bonifide high-upside prospect. 2). Get a franchise player out of our early 2022 pick 3). Find the next best player in the 2022 draft and find a way to make a move and acquire that pick like what we did with Sengun. 4). Turn John Wall’s contract into another draft pick by taking on some salary beyond 2023 (we are not a max free agent away).
If he cant guard guys in the perimeter whats the point of getting him then? Appeal of thin pogo sticks is they are mobile enough to chase guards on the 3 pt line. If he is thin to the point he cant stop pfs and c down low and also too slow chase guards why is he a top draft prospect?

For such a young team like they are to be competing at high levels is amazing. Its going to take some time, i guess just add to the roster. More young players. Kpj is not the problem, like everyone is saying. He not a bad player by any means, still just finding his game. I think houston drafts couple more players and then looks for some good vets to surround this team in year or 2. It will probably be Kpj down the road being like 6th man type player. Its going to be cool when they turn the corner. How these young teams do when you rebuild. People understand the makeup of youthful teams vs vet teams. Rockets just need to gain the exp and it will get better. With the astros it was with Altuve, Springer, and then Correa. Maybe the rockets need to get that next top draft player, and then fill the bench with some salary. This team will come around soon. Suns did the same thing few years back, and now look at them. Jalen Green hoping he will really be good thou, will be fun to watch.
Chet Holmgren is a unicorn. One would hope that his uniqueness has more plusses than minuses. Holmgren is somewhere Bol Bol and Kevin Durant. Holmgren may not even be the best player on Gonzaga, albeit a very good team. If I was a NBA GM, I would want to see Holmgren play 2 college seasons to see how he fills outs his body. But that is not going to happen. Of the projected top 4 picks, Holmgren has the most risk. Do not want.
Just 4 games in the loss collum is the difference between a top% for the #1 pick and the #8 slot for the Rockets. Rockets need to move EG and Wood, a winning streak could be devastating lol
true, but don’t we have to try? The draft is less of a crap shoot for teams who are good at evaluating talent. See Golden State and other good organizations who seem to find talent no matter where they pick.
It's not guaranteed, you could always completely miss with a top pick.....but that's the team's best hope for the future since they don't currently have a franchise quality player.
Besides being tall, black and skinny there is no reason to compare Chet Holmgren and Kevin Durant. They don't play similar at all.
Chet is more AK47 and Bill Walton than Bol Bol or Kevin Durant. He is an exceptional defender that can rotate onto anyone. He has a 7'5"+ wingspan and is an excellent team defender as well. He also is a very talented shot blocker. Offensively he excellent court vision and scores very well inside and has a developing jumper.... a very underrated finisher. At Gonzaga he is only getting to show what he can do on the defensive side of the ball. Assuming he stays healthy his floor is pretty high.
Alright man that's great that you think free throw attempts is the holy grail stat for indicating if a player was physical or not (it's a good indicator). I guess Dirk Nowitzki (9.1 max FTA) was more physical than Kevin Garnett (6.7 max FTA), Zach Randolph (7.1 max FTA), Charles Oakley (4.7 FTA) and other power forwards since his highest FTA season was much higher than theirs. I also intentionally threw in Charles Oakley in the mix. David West in his prime was a tough player certainly willing to scrap. He played a lot of pick and roll with CP3, where his deadliest weapon was pick and pop for a 15 footer. That's why he wasn't as big of a free throw shooter. If you still want to use FTA then we can use his college FTA vs Banchero: West averaged 6.9 vs Banchero's 5.3, for a more fair FTA comp.
Ideally, we finish the year with nagging injuries that let us finish poorly and get a get a top 3 pick this summer (ping pong balls willing), then snag an unprotected 2023 pick from a perennial lottery team at the trade deadline for some combo of Wood/EG/Wall. Adding at least one potential star and another starter in the next two summers, combined with whoever's left from our current young core, sets us up nicely for whoever's coaching us in 2023-2024 and beyond.
The rockets will have one of the worst 3 records. As far as the rest of the wish list, I seriously doubt any of those are happening
Holmgren, from what I have seen, has great defensive value ... in the paint. His close outs on the perimeter are no glass of merlot. He also is not quick enough to keep his man in front of himself on the perimeter. My guess is that Holmgren will play the 4 in the NBA. He might get bullied a bit in the paint, but his shot blocking should easily translate. On offensive, Holmgren should be good except on the low block.
