Deltracron is a lab error and not a real variant. Flurona is nothing new. Flu + Covid infection at the same time happens and nothing is weird about it. IHU is an old variant before Omicron that was known since Nov. Couldn't compete against Delta and Omicron blast it to pieces. The crazy right is like the crazy left.
‘Most people are going to get covid’: A momentous warning at a Senate hearing https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...g-get-covid-momentous-warning-senate-hearing/ excerpt: “I think it’s hard to process what’s actually happening right now,” said Janet Woodcock, acting commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, “which is most people are going to get covid.” Woodcock pitched this as being a necessary acknowledgment when it comes to charting the path forward — recognizing that the focus now needs to be on averting the worst that widespread infections could bring in the near term. “What we need to do is make sure the hospitals can still function, transportation, you know, other essential services are not disrupted while this happens,” she said. “I think after that will be a good time to reassess how we’re approaching this pandemic.” Woodcock’s projection might not be terribly surprising, given the number of daily positive tests rising to record levels. On Monday, the seven-day average reached more than 760,000, meaning about 1 in every 60 Americans has tested positive in the last week alone. (And that’s probably a significant undercount, given the mildness of many omicron cases and the availability of at-home tests.) A study released about four months ago — before the rise of the unprecedentedly infectious omicron variant — estimated that 31 percent of the U.S. population had already been infected even by that point. Woodcock’s comment also came shortly after a World Health Organization official warned the same day that Europe could see more than 50 percent of its population infected over the next six to eight weeks. But as with Messonnier’s comment, the acknowledgment is a momentous one in the fight against the virus. There has been some hope that omicron could spike and fade relatively quickly — as it appears to have in South Africa. But Sen. Richard Burr (N.C.), the ranking Republican on the Senate Health Committee, which hosted Woodcock and other health officials, noted Israeli scientists were less bullish that their country would be following the same trajectory. In responding to Burr’s comments about South Africa, Anthony S. Fauci added another reality check, warning of inevitable future variants and that omicron infections might not provide natural immunity against them. more at the link
I too am a bit surprised by the case #. I don't trust it much, but I think it's probably in the ballpark. We have a serious test deficit, and my guess is sicker folks tend to reach out for tests more than not-as-sick folks. I think we can assume unvaccinated/not-fully-vax would tend to be sicker. But then, it's also very possible that vaccinated folks tend to reach out for tests whenever they are exposed or as a precaution before gathering more often than unvaccinated folks. The test deficits make it very hard to judge.
Like Aaron Rodgers just misleading people and not taking responsibility. Kirk Cousins from the beginning said he wasn't going to get vaccinated and while I strongly disagree with that he was upfront about it and did take several steps to try to keep others safe. I got far more respect for Cousins than I do Rodgers or Djokovic who misled people.
Don't know what point cancun cruz thinks he is making. When Biden stands at a podium I would guess the distance to the closest reporter or other audience member is ten feet. In the picture in the tweet cruz is standing almost shoulder to shoulder with the other republican senators. I'd guess that in senate champers senators are close in proximity. Again, cruz's whataboutism is based on distortion. Why he can't simply do the right thing and wear a mask is simply politics on his part.
Furthermore... I believe Biden is fully vaccinated and gets tested. I also suspect anyone attending news conferences and other speaking opportunities are required to be vaccinated and tested. I suspect cruz knows this... instead he smugly makes a distorted "whataboutism".
Did you watch the entire video? Cruz said all of the people around him are vaxed and boosted. So same rules apply to this presser as to Psaki's and Biden's. Hypocrisy in the media.
Not all republican senators have been fully vaccinated. And again, Biden standing at a podium talking to reporters that are ten feet away versus cruz standing shoulder to shoulder with other senators.
He said everybody around him was vaxed and boosted. And as you said, the reporters also likely have vax requirements. Don't change facts to fit your story.
With Omicron spreading like wildfire, people should mask with N95/KN95 whenever they can to reduce the chance of infection or spreading it. It's not 100% or 0%, it's when you reasonably can. It's not hard.
I don't need to change any story. He was asked why he wasn't wearing a mask while standing shoulder to shoulder with other unmasked senators and his response was why doesn't Biden wear as mask when Biden is standing alone at a lectern talking to masked (fully vaxed and tested) reporters sitting at least ten feet away from Biden. What fact did I change?
You're conveniently leaving out the part where Cruz answered the question on why he isn't wearing one BEFORE he responded as to why Biden isn't asked the same question. He has a valid point.
it's a valid point if the goal is 100% of the time wearing it that's not the goal, nor is it realistic to be one exception has been made at Congress - you don't wear when you are speaking. The norm for Biden is to not wear one when he's speaking but to wear one when he's not. Cruz is smart and knows well he could answer about mask wearing. He doesn't have a valid point and deflected and attack Biden instead. It's what politicians do, avoid answering then pivot to attacking political opponents.
He directly answered the question, then threw it back at the reporter because it was a dumb question in the first place.
he could have just answered the question. he could have even commented on the quality of the question. But he decided to throw the lame and disingenuous "whataboutism".
