CF value of Wood: 3 first round picks AND quality young player Actual return for Wood: Top 20 protected first OR pick swap + expiring contract(s) The Rockets are increasingly comfortable with the offers on Oladipo Wood in the marketplace, which include young players and first-round pick combinations that the franchise believes are suitable returns to make a deal, sources said.
Given Stone's reputation in selling what he's selling.... 2 Second round picks and some salary filler. Maybe a late first round pick prospect from last years draft who aren't getting PT on their current team.
You're so f'ing wrong @J.R. . Wood is better than prime Larry Bird and is only one of two players in NBA history that has averaged 20/10 during a small sample size while shooting over 30% from 3 as a 6'10" or taller big man who's birthday happens to be the day after mine. Those kinds of players are R-A-R-E.
This is exactly what the tankathon kids want though. They want us to deliberately play like trash to lose as much as possible. Nevermind that no team that tanks over and over has ever been successful (and before anybody says it, the Warriors never tanked for any of their players - don't even try that nonsense.) The successful teams play to win, all the time, even when they suck. If you play to lose, your players leave when they get good and you stay losing. We're barely even playing basketball right now and the tankathon asshats are actually celebrating that bullshit.
This is like saying no one is going to land on mars because no one has landed on mars. People are constantly trying and succeeding in new ways to win a title. Spurs tanked for Duncan. Warriors won with the 3 when it was said to be impossible. Pistons won with a balanced team. Dirk and Hakeem won one-man titles against super teams. New things are working constantly, even if most title winners of the past did not tank, it does not mean that all title winners are winning the same way. They are doing by by drafting high, low, development programs, FA, trade, G League, Int'l signings, etc. Everyone is doing different stuff, and we will of course win a title with this group. The chatter is resembling the chatter around Mark Jackson's Warriors: Curry too weak, Klay one dimensional, Draymond too small. You're projecting the worst case scenario to be the likely one, and it's just misguided.
Name one team that tanked over and over to win a championship? I can name several who tanked over and over and stayed in the bottom of the league for decades.
Would Philly bite on Wood + Gordon + picks for Ben Simmons? Assuming they continue to be unable to get the star they want for him and they dont want to waste a prime Embiid year? Pipe dream, unrealistic, and possibly unwise but Id be curious what the team would look like.
Name those teams. Keep in mind that purposely tanking and just being down right incompetent and sucking are two different things. There's the Process that Hinkie implemented and then there's the Sacramento Kings who are just downright incompetent as an organization.
I'm not interested in the technicality poo-flinging, it's a far fetched claim anyhow. It's just a hamster-wheel cycle of me pointing one example out, you making a subjective claim of why it doesn't qualify as tanking, me disagreeing with you, rinse and repeat till one of us gets tired. Forget all that. I'm telling you it doesn't even matter if no one ever won a ring with tanking. We can win with tanking for the first time if it's the first time. It is a totally effective tool of a rebuilding strategy which is why the league cracks down on it because it's the perfect CBA hack for competing with big market teams who on the contrary would rather have someone who can sell tickets on day 1. People have won with the 3pters when it was said there's no winning without a star in the post. People won with no superstars. With multiple stars. With one star. With high assists. With low ones. With teams that were thought to be hopeless and with teams that were favorites. With new coaches and old coaches. Sucky coaches have won NBA titles. Small players, big players. No one is trying to lose, there is no magical karmic effect that lingers. These are all superstitions and fears of taking risk. These people are trying to win with the players who are likely to be here more than a couple of years, which is at minimum how long it will take to get into contention no matter what way we do it. This team is adding another lottery pick this summer and then the culture will start getting reset. They will clear out the malcontents and if anyone has bad habits as you suggest, we will trade them for people with good habits since we have a long flow of picks coming from Brooklyn to develop new project players. It's all good you're freaking out about nothing. It's not as easy to F things up as you make it seem.
Probably true. I’m just hoping there’s an organization out there (Kings, right?) dumber than this one.
Knicks: Which year/season are you referring to? Timberwolves: They got KAT with the #1 pick and tried to (and failed) to build around him. KAT is still an All-NBA level player and it looks like after lucking into Anthony Edwards the team is progressing toward being relevant again. As for winning chips, it's kind of early to call this a failure given Edwards' brief time in the NBA and it's kind of weird to call it a failure if the player they presumably tanked for (KAT) is still on the roster and is still an All-NBA level talent. Pelicans: When did they tank? For AD? They had the 4th best odds to receive the 1st pick that summer. They won 21 games while the worst team that season won only 7 so I'll disagree that was a tank job. For Zion? They had even worse odds (7th) going into the lottery that year than when they went into the AD draft. Clippers: Are you referring to the year they got Griffin?
