why not just fire silas at the trade deadline then see how wood plays under a good coach before trading him for peanuts....
People are frustrated with the losing, not just the losing but the looking like our players don't care. Everyone is making excuses for their player blaming others for their favorite player sucking. People forget the players are people too and are probably very frustrated themselves and are very much aware that they can basically coast along and won't get punished etc..... Some guys are more interested in getting their own numbers....Wood etc. Others are veterans that know they are gone soon - EGO Some rookies foul a bunch but the coach is holding them back - Segun Ultimately everything is broken and everyone is frustrated. DD
Well unless they are trying to tank next year as well. They will hopefully get someone this draft. Perhaps they going all in regarding guards then plan on trading for a decent C/PF i dunno
Well, at least we have the losing culture down pat while we wait for the uncontrollable roll of the dice to bail us out. The tankers must be doing cartwheels.
Not particularly. The lack of direction by Stone and not dumping Wood / Gordon last offseason was a monumental mistake. One meaningless 7 game winning streak later, and we are ahead of Orland and Detroit in the standings in a key part of our rebuild. Unbelievably stupid.
This is honestly the biggest issue by far. The Rockets had a 7 game, meaningless winning streak, where a bunch of 24-32 year old career role players beat up other bottom feeder teams that were tanking and playing mostly their youth. Had the win streak been with mostly rookies and sophomores, it would have been a great learning experience. The Rockets have to surrender their pick in 2024 if it isn't top 4, so the Rockets have 2 more rounds of draft before they run the risk of losing their 1st round pick. However, this actually is fine because 3-4 years of tanking is really what you are looking at for most successful rebuilds. OKC as an example, picked up KD, Westbrook and Harden in 3 consecutive drafts and never looked back. 76ers are similar, 4 consecutive hard tanking seasons and never looked back, but they were a lot more deliberate in their tanking. For Stone, I sincerely hope that there are trade plans coming up. The 7 game win streak would have been worth it if it raised the value of some of our more seasoned players enough to warrant interest, but their value is frankly just going to keep going down at this rate.
I think teams out there are noticing that Christian Wood is just a numbers guy and is below average defensively. Not to mention Wood supposedly had character issues coming out of UNLV that apparently were cleaned up while he was in Detroit but we saw him basically quit on the team recently. He looks engaged some games and deflated in others. Entering this season his value imo should've been 2 1sts (maybe 1 slightly protected) and young player(s) but I think his value has gone down. I see Stone trading him for best offer at deadline. I'm hoping for a 1st and young players, which I do think Stone will ultimately get. Just hoping his trade value remains steady leading up to the deadline
Get a lottery pick and be happy. Hopefully his value hasn’t tanked beyond that (this organization is dumb).
Everyone will look way better when Wood is removed and Sengun is inserted. If Gordon and Wood aren't gone at the trade deadline I will be shocked, and I anticipate that the group will play with more energy and more success thereafter. That includes KPJ/JG/Josh/KJ/Sengun, etc. Then we are going to add Chet/Jabari/Paolo/Ivey to that mix. Beautiful.
This. I think is Sengun isn't a long way from becoming a 4 and small ball 5. If he can be a 4 it would unlock so much for the Rockets and his career. He has shown he has the base for becoming one besides his 3 point shooting which hopefully he can work on. With his great passing he doesn't need to be a Kevin Durant at shooting to pull off becoming a 4. He just need to work on getting his body a little and his shot.
I would consider it for two good young payers or picks only. If we're not getting that offer we keep developing him. Yes, he and Sengun can learn to play together. It might take more than 10-15 games.
I can't see Stone keeping this guy around beyond the end of his current contract. His refusal to defend big men has really turned me against him and his selfishness on the offensive end renders his shooting splits irrelevant to winning basketball. You can't pay this guy max money and he's going to demand it .... and might actually command it on the open market because of his stats and shooting splits. If I were Stone, I'd be looking to get the best return for now .... its highly likely you are a top 5 pick in this coming draft where 4 of the top 5 prospects are versatile big men.
Let's see if they're still doing cartwheels in 29-30 when we've tanked the whole decade, sent most of our good picks to the Thunder and lost all of the talent we did draft to teams who actually try to be competitive. That's the trajectory we're on, not a rebuild to success. This is what happens when you play to lose.
Lol, his value has absolutely tanked beyond that Guy who puts up empty traditional stats on a bad team that is already 20 points back is not a lotto pick thing. And that's not even considering his other baggage. .
Absolutely zero reason he should be on this team past the deadline. Every day after that his value will start to decrease. I still think a contender will give us a 1st rounder, maybe even more at the deadline. Contenders likely won't have high first round picks, so I don't think they will hold onto them too tightly.
DO NOT TRADE ANYBODY, OUTSIDE OF GORDON AND WALL.....Until we get legit coach in here. I've said it before, Silas's system does not make sense. There's no method to the madness. It's like players are running everywhere on offense and defense.
