This isn’t a terribly talented roster and the players with the most talent are teenagers (Green), malcontents (Porter) or very flawed (Wood)… I would be fine with this group not winning another game this season so they can get a top 4 pick guaranteed.

Soon enough Green will become a Shai Gilcrest type contributor and a couple others may emerge as well… but for now, this team is just bad and no amount of coaching will make them even a decent team.

Honestly, I don't know about that. When the Rockets won 7 straight it was right after Silas' name emerged as being in the hot seat. They definitely seem to have another gear. I think you could put a decent squad out there (Theis/Wood/Tate/Gordon/Wall) if we really wanted to.

I agree with you though. We just need another top 5 pick so that we don't have to hope every single 2021 pick pans out. Between Green and Sengun I think we have two potential All Stars. One more prospect this summer would give us enough players to develop without having to be desperate for FA's or trades.

    So rebounding was THE problem?

And your solution is to get rid of best rebounder in Wood, best 2 way player in EGo and a guy no one wants in Wall?????

While we all love Sengun….he is NOT our solution at Center as he is too slow and too short to compete against most teams at that position. We’re in huge trouble if we get rid of (injury prone) Wood and don’t get a Big back in return. Small ball without Harden and Westbrook (and horrific defense) will be a disaster we do not need to and should not want to revisit.

The last line was a repetition of what I was saying last season as long term goals that need to happen. Hasn't changed. I commented why we lost one game out of the 30, I repeat 30 we have lost. This is not a winning team and is in fact the WORST team in the NBA. You are worried about keeping players that have no future here to win games now for a team that is not ready to win for years. I like Wood but it is becoming more clear he may not be here. Would love to keep him but his value is now if you are not going to be able to resign him. See what is out there. Doesn't mean give him away.

The key difference between us is you just don't believe in development and think this can happen overnight if we just shuffle the roster around or make the right trade. To me that is a fantasy. It is going to take going through a ton of players and a ton of personal development from the players we already have to develop a winning team. Eric Gordon is not going to be part of that. John Wall, the untradeable, is not going to be part of that. Likely, Christian Wood doesn't stick around to see that happen.

If this team is ever to win it is going to have to do so because of the players we just drafted and acquired that are essentially rookies and the other players we draft or acquire. There will not be ONE single member of the Rockets team around from the time of Harden on that team. This is a brand new team, give it a chance to be that and develop.

Rockets coach Stephen Silas said the team’s seemingly slow-footed defensive play in recent weeks could come from the inexperience that makes them slow to recognize what needs to be done, rather than a lack of effort to do it.

“The more they do it, the better they’ll get at it,” Silas said before Sunday’s game with the Rockets 29th defensively. “We’re at the point we’re trying to get them to where they’re recognizing things that are coming. If you watch us a lot, most people would say, ‘Yeah, there’s a lot of times they don’t recognize things because they’ve never seen them before.’

“Just wait until Jalen Green can recognize everything that’s happening on the floor and then can use his gifts to go from stop to go so quickly and beat someone to the spot because he knows where they’re going to be or recognizing a set that he’s seen time after time after time. ‘Oh, OK, here it comes.’ Those times are going to come. We got to go through it. At times, it’s not going to look great as we’re building it, but we’re going to get there.”

Silas said that makes practice days such as Saturday so valuable, almost always concentrating nearly exclusively on the defense.

“We just learn from it,” he said. “We’re a young group and we haven’t been together long. We understand there’s going to be mistakes made. Hopefully, those mistakes as we go through, as we learn, as we watch film, as we practice, as we do shootaround, the mistakes will be minimized.

“(Saturday) we went through basic pick-and-roll protection stuff. We understand where we are as a group. We didn’t expect that we were just going to come out here and be a great defensive team, especially when it comes to schematically. Now, the effort part is something that each individual guy has to pay attention to, and me, as a head coach, has to make sure the guys are doing what they have to do when it comes to the effort and the try.”

No accountability for them not doing it, they screw up again and again they still play...and they don't care.

    That is Silas.....

The defense really sucks. But what accountability are you expecting? Bench whoever makes mistakes? They'll run out of players to play pretty quickly.

I think we're supposed to hold them accountable when they suck by benching them. Then when the bench comes in and sucks, we hold them accountable by bringing the first group back in. This way everyone is held accountable.

Perhaps....or they will surprise you because they want to play, they will do what is expected.

No, we should let the coaches play after that. That will hold them accountable.

Hmm, with Lucas at the point, we might be a whole lot closer......even at his age, he can't be worse on D.

Bench players with poor attitudes, that also play poor defense.

Poor defense can be attributed to lack of experience and communication. This is expected from a young team and benching anyone straight away for poor defense isn't the answer.

Poor attitude is another problem entirely, far more insidious, and frankly needs immediate action otherwise it'll only get worse.
