It’s just as easy for someone to become successful as it is for someone to become homeless. It’s a state of mind for everyone here that is interested
I only keep up with Austin news via the Statesman, which a suboptimal news source, but I do remember reading about the tiny home initiative, and I think that's amazingly great. Much better than the hotel model; I'm glad the City is trying.
Have you been to downtown houston? There are homeless people everywhere. I don't understand why we can't to give the basics when we can afford to do that. Just half of what I pay in taxes you could put a family in a decent apartment and give them stipend to give them food. I would rather it go to that, then 775 billion dollar defense budget which who knows where its going.
You didn't address the cost vs income issue which is the main problem the reason the middle class is dying is because the RICH have bought off congress and stopped paying their fair share. Eisenhower a republican BTW had an 87% corporate tax rate - last year Amazon paid nothing in taxes....GE as well. Too much to dividends and stocks and not enough to people/workers. And MOVE TO A RED STATE, most of the RED states are the blood suckers of the economy, they contribute the least - other than Texas. DD
In my mind everyone who posts here should contribute but they don’t Obviously because they take advantage of it and their BS excuse that they can’t afford a few bucks a month Society will never be perfect because humans aren’t perfect . Delonte West made like 40 million in the NBA and went homeless Same reasons everyone else goes homeless , drugs , mental health and addiction
Maybe Jeff can loan you a sign that you can twirl around at the corner of San Felipe and Voss to get your point across on here
Well, it would be for everybody. Similar to food assistance, whenever anybody, me, you, your kids, my kids, maybe our grandkids, and so on, life can be tough, bad things happen, things change. We pay for the service, and if we, or our loved ones need it, they get it, It's like saying if we're going to pay firefighters to spray water on houses on fire, WHY NOT just spray EVERYBODY's house with water, as an argument to not have fire fighters.
I’m making an analogy of the request of the topic Showing that it’s not going to happen on full scale because that’s not how the world works
in NYC they have these cool things called homeless shelters, which are free housing for the homeless. You'd think that fixes the issue of homelessness, but it doesn't. Turns out some of the homeless don't want to stay in free homeless shelters--they'd rather be out in the world on their own, for whatever reason. Rather than rounding up all the homeless and forcing them to enjoy free housing (a free housing mandate, if you will), the NYC government allows the choice to enjoy free housing to be left to homeless individuals to make for themselves, go figure. Stupid NYC government.
